These are great shorts for all uses. They fit well, have a security pocket, no cotton, cool, etc. I highly recommend them. I can now say this becuase I bought 6 pairs and no worries for a long time.

Used these kayaking & zip-lining in Kauai, HI and they performed exceptionally. They were very quick to dry and fit as expected. Very comfortable for all the above activities and hiking.

These are great lightweight very cool shorts. Best for very hot weather since they are so light and airy. They come with an inside liner but I cut that out and use them as regular shorts. Great for all activities. Lightest shorts I have ever owned.

I got my first pair and liked them so much I ordered another. They dry off quickly, have a zipper pocket for my keys, feel and look good. They are great for any kayaker. They even have a snap in your pocket if you want to clip your paddle keeper to yourself. I rate them a 10 out of 10

Nothing more than a bathing suit with a snap and zipper and belt. Runs a tad small. Mesh lining is a little short in the stride. If you don't expect more than that, they are great. Pocket configurations are awesome for boating.

The front pockets are hard to access and the back pockets seem to be too deep. The previous version of these shorts were much better.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Bethesdan Great shorts, but not crazy about the rear pockets
Great cut and fabric. Not too baggy but don't look sloppy. The fabric is very lightweight and stays comfortable even in hot weather. The fabric is not stretchy, however. The waistband has minimal elastic in it. You really need to use the web belt to make sure they stay on.
I understand the rear pockets were placed for comfort during paddling. I don't use them for this purpose, and find that the pocket situates my wallet in a non-ideal location when I'm driving. It would be nice to have this short with the pocket in the conventional location. Also, I'm not a fan of velcro pocket closures and would've preferred a button, snap or zipper closure.
Still, even with my pocket gripes, these are still very nice shorts.

I bought 2 pr of these PADDLE SPORT shorts in Freeport last summer. I kayak avidly, at least 3-4 times a week. I paddle all day, 4-6 hours or more, and frequently overnight on the water. That said, these shorts are designed for that type of activity. If you are in a kayak cockpit or a canoe seat, the shorts are comfortable, and the pockets are cut at such an angle to allow access from this deep seated position. They are a little snug in the seat, but baggy (cargo) type shorts will bunch and make paddling rather uncomfortable after awhile. These have light fabric for comfort and quick drying, since you get wet when you paddle.
And yeah, they may wrinkle easily, but I have never heard any criticism of my wrinkled shorts when I wake up at 5:30 am along the NCFT or on some island in Casco Bay. And when you get in the water (camping version of a shower) and come out, the wrinkles fall out. So there you go.
My complaint - they seem to stain/fade along high traffic seams like the hems, waistband and pockets. My hypothesis is that this is due to sunscreen - I keep lots on my thighs and backs of my hands while paddling, so a lot would logically transfer to the fabric of the shorts in these areas. I have seen this discoloring on some of my cheap tees especially around the neck and armbands, so I am pretty sure this is what it's from, but I expect it from a $4 Jerzees tee, not an LL Bean product. But oh well, they look well worn and well loved, again, I am not wearing them to fashion shows.
These are great for paddling sports - hence the name. Bean sells lots of shorts for strolling the beach or shopping in Kennebunk; these ain't them. These serve their purpose well and economically.

Rated 3 out of 5 by BarackObama great shorts but...
these are really nice shorts for activewear but they run small and on the XL (40-42) size the belt is way too small. I am a 40 and there is maybe 1" of belt left after tightening. also there are so many pockets that some are too skinny for my hands.

These are good looking and fit well. My only complaint is that the legs don't allow for as much freedom of movement as I would like. I think a 1 to 2 inch slit at the bottom of each leg would make them more comfortable. I like the belt and the stretch in the waist. The pockets are well-placed and the liner is comfortable.
