Rated 2 out of 5 by almunday60 llbean quality has slowly done down
I've been an llbean customer for almost 30yrs....pants quality has gone down each year. These pants sit low on the waist, pants are too shallow and you need to be careful otherwise thinngs may fall out.
cargo pockets are too awkward to open with both buttons used.
stress points have to be sewn because they started to give.
llbean needs to go back to old school --- pants with long rise, deeper front pockets...cargo pockets too baggy...do not buy

Rated 3 out of 5 by OwnLotsBeanStuff Fastening of pocket flaps!!!!
Both the cargo pockets and back pockets use a 2 button fastening system between two flaps that cannot be described here. In a real pinch you may be able to undo a back pocket, but I doubt anyone has ever successfully re-buttoned one without taking the pants off, which is difficult and embarrassing in winter, or in a public place. Personally, I couldn't even unbutton the cargo pockets with one hand, but I may not be as skilled as some. These must be designed for bungee jumping to assure that your stuff doesn't fall out.
If you need extra buttons, I'm cutting 8 off the pants that I'd gladly give away.

I got two of these to use for casual wear and hiking. One of them is still going strong while the other tore after only about 10 or 15 uses. I'm not sure what went wrong, but the seat completely tore out when I was squatting down to pick something up (not a good thing to have happen at a family BBQ). I have owned many L.L.Bean products and this is the first that I have ever been dissatisfied with.
Sadly I did not know about the lifetime return policy so the pants got cut up to use as oil rags for the car.

I have these in the tan or khaki color and they have held up fine. I like the olive color better though. There has to be a problem with the olive as the rear area by the pockets fail after a single use. I am on my second pair and they too have torn after the first use. I am heading back over to Bean today to return these as well. I really like the look and feel of these, but they are not to Bean standards by any means.

Rated 4 out of 5 by ruggedcasualshopper Good but variable waist
Fantastic pants and I have 3 pairs (different colors). Very comfortable, practical, durable, and love the hidden inside front zip pockets! However, waist size was variable and unpredictable testing 3 of the same waist size before finding a fit.

by DanPants Strong pants Weak Waistband button
Good things to say about the Allagash cargo pants. Have purchased many and after a little repair work I am very happy with them. The plastic waistband button is too weak and after one or two wearings break in the center. I have replaced the broken buttons with metal ones and have had no further trouble with them.

My husband loves these pants, and so do I. They look great! My husband loves the comfort, yet they fit perfect in all the right areas. We live in Maine, and they are a lighter weight material, so he will wear them more in the spring, summer, and fall. Sizing is right on true.

I've had three pairs of these pants fail in less than one year, all in the area of the rear pocket. I don't recommend them for that reason.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anolis Great pants for work and the outdoors
Got these on sale last year, and while I don't wear them as often as other LL Bean pants, they are quite comfortable and hold up well for both work and recreation. Wash easy, don't wrinkle, and fit well.

I had a set of these pants for just over a year and ordered a new set as my old ones have been well used. Unfortunately, one pair ripped in the seat area when I squatted down quickly (LL Bean has been kind enough to replace them). Upon examination, I noticed that the tear initiated by the stitching in the back pocket that is used to hold the bottom corners down. In my old pairs, the stitching did not extend into the single layer of fabric of the pant. In the new ones, the stitching does (it is just one stitch, but that is all that is needed to cause the tear). This stitching creates a point of high stress... the multiple layers of fabric are able to handle the stress, the single layer is not. Rather than return all of the ones I ordered, I have removed the stitching.
I like these pants and am willing to make the necessary alterations to them. If you don't take the stitching out, you will either have a rapid failure as I did, or you will eventually develop a hole in that area.
