I bought one pair last month and really appreciate the comfort and fit.
They have also become my lucky fishing shorts!
So I just ordered two more pairs!!

I just received the Bean's Summer Shorts in the Clay Fish style and am very pleased with them. I have a 32 inch waist and the 32 inch shorts were a perfect fit and very comfortable too. The embroidered fish are a very unique feature which add an interesting splash of color. The material is light in weight and ideal for warm weather.

Rated 5 out of 5 by FreyasDad Perfect fit and very comfortable
I was looking for a pair of shorts for this summer season and I took a chance on these heavily discounted pair. I am usually a 33 or 34 and ordered a 34 and they fit very nicely. The bands of color are understated and I have found them to be extremely comfortable. I highly recommend them.

These shorts have to be the worst pair of shorts I have ever tried on. I normally wear my pants below the "natural" waist but these shorts took that idea to a new level. Not only were they way too big but the crotch area was too loose and there had to be a good inch or two of extra room that made them feel baggy. Also, there is absolutely no way these shorts are 9 inches. I wear a certain nationality-animal (if you get my drift) pair that are 10 inches and hit right at my kneecap; these were barely passing mid-thigh. In all, these shorts left a lot to be desired and regret buying them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Hermitsunite I absolutely love theses shorts!
I usually wear shorts/pants with a 31" or 32" waist. Based on some of the reviews for these shorts, I sized down and ordered the 30". Big mistake. Returned them for size 32" and the 32" fits perfectly. I usually find it helpful to read the reviews before making a purchase. In this case, some reviewers found the shorts to be too large and others found them to be too big. Makes me wonder if there might have been some sizing inconsistencies in the manufacture of these shorts. Any way, the shorts are comfortable, stylish (I got them in dark blue), and soft. LL Bean's easy/free returns is second to none. If you don't have an LL Bean credit card, get one.

Rated 1 out of 5 by MPGD Rise too low
I found the waist sizing fine but the rise was too low so the shorts were tight in the crotch and around the thighs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by DanCK True to size
With all the reviews about these being bigger to size, I was somewhat concerned after placing my order. Immediately trying them on upon arrival, I find them true to size. Excellent option for summer shorts!

I was stoked to purchase these shorts as the dog days of summer are headed my way. I ordered a size 40, which should have been big enough.
Not so, gentle readers... not so. These shorts feel two sizes too small... like a pair of skin and I could barely get them over my thighs.
I have purchased LLB's classic polo shirts in the past with much satisfaction, so this comes as a particularly hard blow. I am VERY DISAPPOINTED. I live in South Korea and had to wait 20 days for this order to get here. Now it's hot as heck (pardon my language) and I have to deal with trying to exchange shorts across oceans and all of that. Not happy with LL Bean.

My husband just received the shorts in blue plaid, and loves the fabric and pattern. He takes a 35" waist, and these are a little large in the waist. He always wears a belt with shorts, so he plans to keep them. LLBean jeans in a 35" waist are never too big.

Rated 5 out of 5 by FlannelLover Review for MADRAS summer shorts
I must (respectfully) disagree with everyone who says that the sizing is off on these shorts. Based on the reviews, I ordered my husband a pair in size 30. He ALWAYS wears a 32, but everyone is freaking out so much about how oversized they are, I thought even the 30's might be too big.
. . . cut to the chase. The 30's were too small. Gutted. Quickly ordered a pair in 32 & they arrived immediately, and they're PERFECT. Fit him like a dream. He is a slim guy (swimmer's build) & these are terribly flattering on him - not baggy.
So there you have it. They run true to size. That's my story & I'm sticking with it!
For what it's worth, they have a fabulous retro look to them. I swear my dad had these same shorts in the early '60's. Probably did - and he probably bought them at LLBean!
