Rated 4 out of 5 by PreppyButFashionable a solution to the defective strap problem
as my comment/review in Oct stated. I had the same problem as many others with the strap clips breaking/slipping off. Exchanging the bag won't solve it as the problem is not in a defective clip. The problem is in the design of the bag itself. The clips are simply not strong enough to hold the bag. What I wound up doing was... I went to the hardware store and bought 2 metal clips (the oval kind used for rock climbing etc) and hooked them to the existing bag hardware. I haven't had to worry about them since. Do I love the bag still? Yes. Should I have to go to a hardware store to fix the design problem myself? No... This is a problem that the manufacturer or the vendor to LL Bean should have fixed.

Rated 2 out of 5 by see7 Unfortunately it's not what I wanted it to be
Let me start by saying I love LLBean, and I think the signature line is a great idea. This bag is beautiful, rugged, and can fit in anywhere without making you look like a tourist.
Unfortunately I cannot recommend it and had to return the bag. The leather on the outside was great, and only got better looking with a few uses. But the twill inside ripped completely within a week of use. Not only was the use itself not particularly heavy (carrying it in my hands and around my shoulder on a 2 day trip) but the contents were all soft - clothes, sneakers, etc. Absolutely no reason for this to occur. I hope that it was simply a defective item, but I can nonetheless say that the end result is an inferior product.

Rated 3 out of 5 by PreppyButFashionable Disappointing detail issues
Let me say first of all, I really do like this bag. It looks very nice and is proportioned nicely. HOWEVER!!!! as other reviews have pointed out, the zippers and the strap are definitely problems. The zipper of my bag is no longer working. and the strap keeps falling out of the hook mechanism... The brass work on the bag needs to be improved. As such, I can not recommend this bag to others. I'll try to repair the problems. If not, I may have to throw this one out

Rated 4 out of 5 by MumsforSons Only 1 problem...Otherwise, Love this Bag!
My husband loves this bag, except for 1 problem, the clips holding the shoulder strap to the bag won't stay closed! So, when he's in a busy airport, his clips constantly pop open causing the bag to fall off his shoulder. We're on our 2nd bag, due to the same problem, but hate to return this one, but may have to. Would rather Bean send us a new strap with clips that stay shut.

My husband thought this was a nice bag, but I had to return it because it wasn't exactly what he originally had in mind for a vacation bag...Overall, the quality of the leather was very nice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by WickedWanda1 Best Leather Bag Ever!!
I bought this leather bag for my husband for Christmas 2011. It is the best quality Leather Bag I have ever seen. He absolutely loved it. He said it was the best gift He had ever received. We travel several times a year and that's the only carry on bag He wants to use. The leather is looking better with each use, character...The zipper, handles and the shoulder strap are built tough to last a lifetime! I highly recommend this product from L.L. Bean!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by StyleSon Excellent bag, long wait, needs tweaking
Purchased and received the Cordovan Vacation bag. It took a long while to receive it; it was on back order and then the date kept getting pushed further and further. However, the customer service staff were helpful and cordial and made it as easy as possible.
On to the bag. The Cordovan color is amazing; online I only see the Deep Woods Green now, which is a shame. The construction-- from the leather to the lining to the brass feet-- is sturdy and substantial, the bag roomy and hearty. However, the bag loses a star for two reasons: first, a more substantial zipper could make this a perfect combination of style and utility. Along the same lines-- secondly and most importantly-- the brass clip hardware on the strap needs to be reevaluated. Too often, a heavily loaded bag put so much weight on the strap clips that the springloaded arm actually popped out due to the flex of the load-bearing brass hook portion of the clip, the part that the weight of bag rests on. A pair of needle-nose pliers were able to remedy the situation by bending the load-bearing hook portion further inward so that, even in flex, the spring loaded arm did not pop out of place. I could see this issue being a "game-ender" for someone older and/or someone who does not know how to remedy the issue. Overall, beautiful and well crafted... just needs a bit of tweaking.

Excellent quality, color, style. I looked for two years in shops and catalogues to find a piece of luggage that did not have "roller" wheels on it. It was a present for my husband and he often returns things I give him; but with this one he immediately said "This will work." It works well and looks good.
