Rated 4 out of 5 by NYCBeanBuyer Sheath is not what it used to be, but OK
Like so many other products, this is not the same sheath that I bought four years ago. The leather is thinner, and although perfectly adequate, it's just sad that you can't get the same product you counted on when reordering. Also, at $19.50, it's way overpriced, especially considering the drop in quality.
The original one houses my Spyderco Tenacious perfectly and looks and feels great; the new one handles a smaller knife and if I hadn't had the older sheath, I guess I would have been satisfied with the quality of this one.
If you go ahead and buy this, put some neatsfoot oil on it and break it in with the knife of your choice. It's still OK. But you may be satisfied with an inexpensive nylon version while saving some money.

Excellent quality. Bought the small sheath pocket knife holder and surprised at the size. I will use it but swamps knife. I would consider the size at least designed for a medium size knife. llbean needs to offer a smaller size for knife under 4" folded.

Rated 2 out of 5 by LLHUNTER Weak Belt Loop
I purchased this item to carry my Gerber. Size is perfect however the leather on the back for belt to pass through is already tearing. Have only been wearing for just under 2 weeks. Not one to return items (have NEVER) but will question folks when I next return to the store in Freeport. Simple design change would correct problem. Thicker leather on back as what is there is not sufficient and would pay slightly more as the cost is more than reasonable.

This is a very well made piece of leather work. The seams are straight and the leather is high quality. The design and strong snap keep your favorite knife/tool very secure.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Rigmarole Built to a price
The sheath wasn't great and it wasn't terrible. The leather quality was just fair. I returned it. I decided I'd rather go with a high quality nubby nylon sheath than a leather sheath which looked a little cheap new and would summarily head south from there. I would urge LLB to spend $1 more per copy on leather quality in China and raise the price accordingly. I'm sure they have well honed techniques for making these determinations and thus we have this. It looks better in the picture than it does jumping out of the green bag.

Gave this to my Husband on a Monday, he wore it to work for 3 days and by Thursday the slot on the back that goes through the belt was ripping open, the leather is very very thin, it does not hold up well at all, don't waste your money on this product, find something else.

Leather could be a little heavier, but overall, a well constructed and functional knife sheath. This is the second one that I have bought for another knife. Can be attached to pack straps as well as belts.

by PhotosRLJ Tore the First Time I Used It
I'm actually returning this to L.L. Bean this morning and asking for a replacement. I bought it to use with my Buck Ranger folding knife because it is, I feel, a much nicer appearing case than the one that came with the Buck. It arrived, fit perfectly, and really is a nice product. However, the first time I used it, it brushed hard against the seat in my truck as I was getting in, and the leather tore in the slit my belt went through. This is the first Bean product I've ever had that has failed, but I am sending it back for an exchange because I really do like it...I'll just be more careful where I place it on my belt.

After about a year and a half of just partial weekly wearing of the sheath ...the stitching in upper corners is broke and is pulling through. It's a good design and feels good in the horizontal position but is not riveted in the corners like the Buck sheaths are.
