I purchased the Rossi BC 65 Skis, package with the BC Touring Poles in 12/2014. I have been very impressed with the quality/performance of this package however the poles are fair at best. On my second run with this set I bent my pole & also lost a basket. LL Bean did send me 2 replacement baskets for $10. I made sure that I installed the new basket properly however have now lost a second one. The LL Bean Touring Ski Poles are much more flexible/durable, an excellent choice.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Maineperson OK poles - assembly required
I've put several miles on these poles since I bought them and they seem OK. For some reason the baskets don't come installed and it takes a LOT of force to get them to "click" into position. I nearly needed tools. Once on though, they haven't fallen off like others have commented. I hope LL Bean gets their supplier to install the baskets as part of manufacturing.
The baskets don't do much in powder. I had my poles sink in nearly 2 ft in light powder.
The straps were easy to adjust, even with mittens on.

The poles are lightweight and very comfortable to use. My only complaint is the snow baskets. I knew from previous reviews that they had a propensity to fall off and was warned that it is critical to install them correctly. My poles came with no instructions. On my second use one of the snow baskets came off but fortunately I noticed it right away so I was able to find it. They are not easy to twist onto the pole. I am hopeful that I now have them secured.

Great poles. Very strong. I've had lots of wipeouts in deep snow and these poles have born my full weight in order to get upright over and over. They have a nice tensile strength about them that travels through the pole while gliding along with the periodic push. It's true, you can attach the baskets improperly and wind up digging for them. The lanyard on the pole is comfortable and smart.

Rated 5 out of 5 by DougM21 Great poles...must lock in baskets
Great lightweight poles. The baskets LOCK in with a quarter turn making it impossible to come off. Some reviews mentioned an issue but they are not installing them properly. They do run long so go small.

Haven't had these out on the trail yet (due to lack of snow) but really like the feel of these poles. The quality appears to be high especially for the price.

by Skijorsue UH OH!
I give LL BEAN a thumbs up for replacing this item immediately when one pole broke in half.
But a thumbs down for item because I barely sat on one ski pole and it broke clean through when I fell while skijoring with my husky.
These poles, though nice and light, could be made with stronger materials so they don't break so easily.
I don't weigh all that much either, so it didn't take much to break it.
Sorry this happened because the Back Country skis and boots and bindings that came with the set are perfect.
I only recommend that the poles be made stronger, especially for back country skiing!

Rated 2 out of 5 by Rty88 Good poles, poorly designed baskets
Like several of the other reviewers I too found these poles to be initially a good purchase. Lightweight, good grips and reasonably priced. However, the baskets are not well designed and after 2 outings both had come off. LL Bean does not offer replacements which is a major disappointment.
I can not recommend these poles and would suggest you stay away from them.

My wife and I have been using these poles for both backcountry and touring center XC skiing for years, and we noticed this year that one of her poles was bent near the bottom so we purchase a new replacement pair. They are made by a first rate Austrian manufacturer, the same as the the other ones we own and should last my wife many many years.
