I love this bed. We have 2 English Springer Spaniels who are 12 and 15 years old so they have definitely earned this "theraputic" bed! It is super comfy for them - both fit comfortably on the X-Large with room to spare.
The material is super durable (we have the indigo denim) and resists dirt very well. I vacuum it weekly and we bath the girls monthly. We have had it for over a year now and just washed it for the first time. It had only just started to show any dirt, but now it looks brand new!
Yes, it is a pain to reassemble after washing, but what dog bed with this many pieces and features wouldn't be hard to assemble? The cover fits perfectly with no sagging or excess...even after a year of use. I highly recommend to all!

by jbugs 2nd bed, 2nd review
this is my second review for this bed. Sizing has been an issue, tho I don't blame Bean for that as it's hard to determine what dog will fit in which beds by weight alone. My black lab is #83 and not overweight but big for a female lab. I went by the rec weight size a couple years ago which was XL and it was way, way, too big. Returned for large which was better and my dog loved the bed. Still a bit large tho because she likes to sleep with her head on the bolster pillow thereby taking up only half the space on the large. I decided to order her the medium bed and move the large to the bedroom. The medium works fine for her and it takes up a lot less floor space. I agree with other reviewers that there is too much size difference between lg and md. I wish the med was a tad bit bigger or the large a bit smaller. Or maybe my dog should be a bit bigger or smaller haha! Getting the cover on and off is very hard UNLESS you follow the directions that come with it to the tee and use some plastic or fabric to cover the foam platform so it will slide. I wrapped mine in a cut-to-size piece of plush mattress pad and it slides in nicely. This also gives the top a more cushy feel. The bed is made well but it's the nature of foam and memory foam to not slide on fabric. By the way, the memory foam in this platform is only the egg crate part not the entire depth of the mattress. The rest of it is regular foam rubber. However, that is stated in the description (sort of). If you are looking for solid memory foam you could just buy the regular bolster bed and then get a twin mattress topper and cut it to size, maybe even be able to double it. I kind of wish I had done this now. Anyway I hope this review is helpful. I am adding some photos to add visual aid for size.

Rated 2 out of 5 by OpinionatedLady Love the LL Bean Dog Beds - but not this one
My dog currently has 5 LL Bean dog beds throughout the house to lay on. He has loved them all and so have I. Now that my dog is old, I decided to buy him the therapeutic couch with memory foam mattress. I love the mattress but the rest of the couch leaves little to be desired. I agree with some of the other reviewers. The canvas is not comfy or attractive. I loved the beds so much more when they came with the soft tops. The colors available now are ugly. The arms of the couch are very difficult to assemble. The couch should have been made with another zipper around the bolsters to make them easy to get in. I am dreading the day I will have to wash this and disassemble and reassemble it again. Even though the old beds are worn out, my dog is choosing them over this hard canvas couch. I should have just bought the memory foam mattress and put it in the old cover. I doubt I will buy another dog bed until the colors and material change. I would give 5 stars to the mattress but the overall bed only deserves 2 stars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by dogslovellbean Our dogs fight over this bed
We purchased an extra large therapeutic bed for our English Setter, Jack, about 6 months ago after his hip surgery. He loves it! The extra large is perfect for him because it has the space needed for him to circle around to get comfortable, and room for our teenage daughter to cuddle with him. Lately, our 2nd dog Lila has been fighting over the bed so we purchased another one in the large size.
The look on their faces as they sleep says it all. You will not regret this purchase from LL Bean.

by Selmar Perfect Bed for Older Dogs
My dog sleeps at night in a "bagel" bed with her head resting on a side. In the living room, there are many cushions on the floor (made from king-size person pillows). Since she's now 11 yrs and has joint and hip pain, I wanted a lounge bed with very good good support. This one really has it--on the bottom and on the sides.. So far, it's the best I've seen and worth the somewhat high cost. Unlike some reviewers I read (before buying it), I had no trouble at all putting the parts together. (Maybe the design was changed since those reviews.)
I'm attaching a photo of how she's sleeping at the moment. Her body is pressed against two sides. I hope this bed washes well and lasts.

I have a 9 month old great dane. She's 100 pounds. After reading the reviews I decided that the x-large may be too big, so I went with the large. It is the perfect size for her with a little room for her to grow. Could have ordered the extra large but am happy with the large.
I looked for beds for weeks for her and could not find one I was satisfied with. The filling and construction of most beds on the market is just disgusting. These stores pretend to provide products our dogs deserve when really it is all a bunch of junk. My friends thought I was crazy spending this much on a bed but it will be the only one I ever purchase for her. The quality and comfort it provides is truly priceless.
The assembly is not hard at all. My mother helped me and we did fine. The cover is extremely durable. The memory foam and cushions fill out the cover wonderfully. This bed actually looks great in my living room!
I also want to add that LL Beans customer service is extraordinary. I have never felt so valued as a customer. This is why I spend my money here - quality, value, and great service.
Thanks a bunch LL!

by IslandTiffy33 Pain to assemble but AWESOME dog bed!!!
Our puppy had surgery on a broken leg and this bed has been her resting place for 2 months. She LOVES this bed and so do we! It arrived in pieces the foam bottom and 3 large pillows. Putting it together is a much easier 2-person job and takes some time but once it is... you will want to nap with your dog on it. I have come close to falling asleep on it a number of times and our puppy is recovering nicely due to this well made, comfortable, supportive and quality product. It looks cute in our living room and while I was initially disappointed that we couldn't have her name embroidered (I did that myself) and this will be a life-long spot for our pups to sleep and dream. We highly recommend this semi expensive dog bed - but do wish it was offered in more colors. It compares well to all high end beds we researched and as usual, are glad we stuck with LL Bean!

I bought the small size therapeutic dog bed for my 12 1/2 yr. old Boston terrier recently. He'd been sleeping on our couch with his blankets but has trouble jumping up there now so figured this might be a good alternative. In the past he has resisted other dog beds so I was a bit worried he would not like this one as well. Thankfully not long after we put it together and put his blankets in it, he crawled right in and laid down!!! Now I don't have to worry about him falling while trying to get off and on the couch. The only thing I might have changed is the size- the small fits him but there's not a lot of room to stretch out.. he's a tall Boston and weighs around 27 lbs. In the winter he tends to curl up while sleeping anyway so it shouldn't be a huge issue.. in summer he might need to sleep on the floor if he wants to stretch out to stay cool. All in all this seems like a well made bed and it seems to be quite comfortable to him. It took my husband a little while to figure out how to put it together but once we figured out what went where, it went together pretty quickly.

I have a 22 pound JRT and bought a size small bed/couch. It is great! Firm, yet soft and the perfect size for him. I agree with other reviews, the cover is difficult to get on and off, but I think that is a benefit to the piece itself. I sewed a large canvas rectangle, lay it over the bed and tuck it in under the bed so I can wash that every week rather than taking off the cover. We have had it for several months now and he loves it. He brings blankets and stuffed animals onto it and it is a cozy little nest.

I purchased two and both dogs love them. They seem easy to clean but I haven't tried to clean them yet.
