Bought a size large bed for my 70lb golden retriever. Measure out on your floor to ensure you have the space for this bed. It is big, but the dog seems to appreciate either being able to stretch out or curl up in a corner. The bed is visually very nice and looks like a nice piece of furniture rather than an eyesore on the floor. Problem is, my dog doesn't seem to love the memory foam. I bought the foam thinking it would last longer without going flat - which I am sure it will, but I often find my dog curled up elsewhere. I'm considering returning it and getting the premium dog bed which is probably softer, but I do like the thought that this foam mattress will stand up to time and wear without going flat.

I've had this bed for 6 months now, and it still looks brand new. The size Large is just right for my 68 pound, 12 year old Golden Retriever -- she spends hours lounging in it. I am especially pleased by how supportive it is, she hardly makes a dent in the surface when she's in it, no sagging like so many other beds. Even the bolsters have retained their shape. I found that liquids will actually bead up on the denim cover, it is really an exceptionally sturdy fabric. Although a bit of a challenge to assemble initially, it is definitely worth it, best dog bed I've bought in 20 years of trying several vendors.

We purchased the extra-large in September, and while it is an extremely well-made product, we dread washing it. L.L.Bean, please consider redesigning the inside zippers to the outside on the side bolsters. Would make life so much easier!

Our Golden Retriever, Gracie, who is almost a year old really enjoys her bed. Maybe a little too much! LLBean needs to come up with a better way to conceal and make the zipper less accessible on the back bolster. Our dog when left alone for long periods must get bored because she finds a way to grab the zipper pull, that closes the rear bolster and manages to pull it across and get it open. She then grabs and pulls out the bolster padding from the compartment and chews and plays around with it. This has happened several times now. The last time she ripped the seam a little and was trying to pull out the stuffing. My wife will need to sow that seam back together. I was amazed our dog was able to find, grab and pull the zipper open. She doesn't bother the side bolsters. So, I have one big request of LLBean and that is to somehow have the zipper on the back bolster concealed better. Everything else is great about the dog bed.

by garnet10 Best dog bed ever!
My dog loves this bed! She loves cozying up against the bolsters and I love that it looks like a little couch for her. The material is strong and durable. The bolsters took a little work to get in, making me think twice about washing it too often, but once they were in they fit nice and snug.
I do wish the bottom pad was a bit thicker, but my dog doesn't seem to mind! They do run very big. Thankfully, I listened to other reviewers and sized down and purchased the Large size for my 85 pound German Shepherd. Luckily, we have space for it.
All in all, it's a great dog bed, and I'm very happy with this purchase!

Our Shih Tzu Bernie LOVES this bed. We got him the small indigo version for Christmas this year. He had zero separation anxiety for the bed he'd had for nearly five years. He jumped into this Bean bed and never looked back.
He loves to snuggle into the bolsters and lay his head on them. The memory foam is clearly very comfortable and gets him well off the cold floor at night. I cannot recommend this bed more highly.

by LLBeanFaninNC My dog LOVES it!
My dog is the customer here and she LOVES the bed. I had no trouble putting the bed together, it's just the pieces are bulky. Two people are helpful, read the directions first, it will save you time and bickering =). She's had it about a month now and we haven't had any problems. Note: do NOT open the memory foam package until you are sure you have the right bed size because repackaging it once it has poofed up is not easy. You can lay the bed down flat with or without the bolsters in it to see if your dog will fit. When I bought the bed the inside measurements of the bed (the space the dog would actually have as opposed to the overall dimensions) were not posted. But LLBean was, per usual, very helpful and provided me with the measurements. My dog is a shepherd-chow mix and is 67 pounds. She fits comfortably in the Large sized bed.

The dogs love this bed. Bought the xlardge and they will both lay on it, they are each 100lbs plus. Seem to love the side bolsters. I loved the bed until the first time I laundered it. The bolsters went in no problem..the egg crate pad is a struggle, why didn't they make the zippers longer. Would make it a lot easier! Not looking forward to washing this bed every other week..grrr!

by IndyNancy Durable, comfortable
We purchased this dog bed for our lab/Rhodesian Ridgeback mix 3 years ago at Christmas. We are thrilled with it. We keep it in the bedroom to keep the dog off our bed. Our dog is 75 lbs and we ordered the Large after plotting out the dimensions on the floor of several rooms in the house. She has plenty of room. I wash it quarterly or more frequently, but I put a padded crate liner or an LLBean dog blanket in it (which I wash weekly) to cut down on having to take it apart to wash. It takes a few minutes for my husband and me to assemble. It takes longer when I assemble it alone. It is challenging, but given the sturdy materials I find it a small price to pay for how well this bed has held up. It is important to use the inside zippers to position the bolsters efficiently. After 3 years there is no fraying, or holes. Also the foam insert has maintained its shape as have the bolsters. A great purchase. I would not be put off by the investment price as this piece will last.
