If you wear this layer under a parka, it had better be very cold outside! It's just as described; a mid-weight layer. The length of the torso is just right, and the thumb holes add a little coverage and warmth to the hands. I bought this item in blue, which features slimming seam detail. Love love love merino wool!

This was wonderful! I've never been able to wear wool, but this was comfortable - not itchy. I bought one for cross-country skiing & was warm all day! Now I want another one - I wear it for Yoga, around the house, on weekends, Great garment!

I got this as a gift and am very pleased with it! This top is soft yet warm, as one would expect from a garment made of 100% merino wool. The styling is slim and the black stitching is so well done that wearing the base layer by itself would be acceptable. The arms are a good length and have a thumb hole at each wrist. I'm 5'4" and the length of the garment is about mid-hip, enough for me to tuck it in and it stay tucked in. With a 33A bust, my size in L.L. Bean tops is XS or Petite XS, if available. Regular XS tops are generally roomy on me, including this base layer. Base layers should be more snug, but it's acceptable and comfortable. I've washed the garment twice, tumble dried for a few minutes then hang dried, and so far no fading or shrinking (which might actually be a good thing in my situation).
I live in coastal Southern California where a chilly winter night would be 45 degrees, so I can't comment on this garment's true cold weather performance, but I'm always cold and this base layer helps me beat that. The regular price, while seemingly high, is a great value for a well made, merino wool top, but it's even better if someone checks it off of your wish list. :-) I only wish this, and more of LL Bean's clothing, were made in the USA. That would increase the price, of course, but I would pay extra to help employ my fellow citizens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by KathyG PERFECT FOR NEW HAMPSHIRE WINTERS
I bought this item, as well as the Cresta Wool Pant base layer, and both are terrific. Hubby also has the pant layer. While walking the dogs in snowy and cold New Hampshire, I initially wore the top under a light sweater and Bean's Goose Down Parka. I wore the Cresta Pant layer under the Stowaway Gore-Tex Pants. After nearly an hour, I was still toasty warm, which was amazing. This Base Layer crewneck is not one bit itchy - a huge plus. The entire outfit fits close to the skin with tremendous comfort and washes well in cold water. I didn't notice any shrinkage. Enthusiastically recommended.

I love this shirt! It is very comfortable and warm. This is my must-have base layer top when going out in the cold Montana weather and it is also comfy for wearing around the house (like I am right now). I have had it for over a year now and have worn it a lot but even after many washes it still looks like new!

Rated 5 out of 5 by cherilikescomfy Best running shirt ever
Wore it this morning for the first time to run in 42 degree weather and it was perfect. Warm and lightweight - that combo can't be beat. It's soft and cozy and fit perfectly though the length did shrink a teeny bit from the dryer. I wore it once and have already ordered another--this will be my go-to shirt and I don't want to risk it being in the washer. Love to see it in another color choice. Highly recommend it.

i am 5'2", 125lbs, 38 top, so i got the lg size to be a loose fit.
when thumbs in hole, the wrists cover backs of my hands, and shirt falls below hips for a tunic fit. good to wear around the house or under a hoodie for walking in cold weather.

I wish I had grabbed up the last medium... I am 5'2" 110lbs and the misses medium fits my arms just right, a tad long in the torso. It has also developed a hole near the wrist, not sure how that happened, have only worn it a couple of times. It does keep me warm. Wore it alone with the Bean tested down jacket hang gliding in temps from 50 to 35 and I was very comfortable. Only my gloved fingers got cold.
I liked the sale price of about $40; thought that was a fair price. $54 seems a bit more than I'd like to pay: Liked the blue/black color ... minus a star for the hole, and because my size, color and price has sold out.
LL Bean, please make more of these wicked wool crew necks and in more colors please...
the blue/black is good, keep that one. Maybe a lower price too. Thanks!
