I love my new barn coat! I ordered the red color and it is great. I first ordered a medium and it was a little snug in my shoulders. I returned it and ordered a large. It is perfect. I can wear layers and bulky sweaters under it and still feel like I can move around in it. It will be my every day jacket for running errands, buying groceries, etc. I love the pockets for my keys and lists. I am really happy w/my new barn coat.

I had a barn coat from another company for years but lost it about a year ago so I decided to try this one from LL Bean.
It looks like it?s made well, I got it in the ?loden? color and love it, the fit is a little big I had to send the first one back for a smaller size.
I have not been able to wear it yet (too warm in SC) but am looking forward to the cooler weather.
How well it will last is yet to be seen.

The coat arrived promptly fits nicely, and is very comfortable. It is even warmer than I expected, which was an added bonus. I had a similar L. L, Bean coat that I wore for many years and I'm sure this one will be as durable.

Rated 4 out of 5 by BmoreSF Great coat, be careful of sizing
Well constructed, warm, comfortable coat. Unfortunately, I had to return it -- I bought the 2X based on the sizing chart. It was so large I was swimming in it. The sleeves went past my fingers and the chest was huge. I think I can go down two sizes. Still, a great coat that wears well and lasts a long time.

I'm 5 ft 9, chest 49", long arms. I usually take a 2X. Read the reviews and originally purchased the thinsulate version in1X. It was huge, armpits hung 4 inches and short sleeves. A large canvas tent!! And stiff and bulky! I loved the style so I returned it for the flannel lined one in a XL. IT FITS PERFECT. And for some reason the XL sleeve length is longer! I can even fit a hoodie under it. Only complaint is the flannel lining is more of a thin cotten. It's perfect for fall into winter and spring which is exactly what I wanted. Not a coat for a blustery cold Connecticut winter but I have the Winter Warmer jacket when the snows come (in a 2X!)

Rated 5 out of 5 by VRuth Still great quality!
This is my second Barn Coat from L.L. Bean. I was hopeful that this new one would still have the same quality and details of my first. It did not disappoint! After reading the previous reviews, I did order a size down from what I would normally order. I am usually an XL, but ordered an L. The fit is great with room for layering underneath. I got the Rustic Red. It is a lovely shade of red, rich, but not too bright.

Rated 5 out of 5 by frut superb product
This is surely one of the best garments L. L. Bean has ever made, and this comes from a loyal customer! It's just warm enough, so easy to pop on, layers over everything, won't show soil (I got the olive green), and I particularly want to compliment the design with the turn-back corduroy cuffs, the subdued plaid lining, the sewn-in back belt design, and the sleeves not so darned long that I have to go get a tailor to shorten them. Just right!

Rated 5 out of 5 by AlpacaShepherd Great barn coat
I bought this as a personal birthday present. The previous reviews said the coat was too big but I found it to fit very well; enough room to add layers under it which is perfect for doing chores at the barn. I love that the hay does not cling to it. The pockets allow me to carry small tools or medicine I may need while working with the alpacas. I purposely chose green to cut down on showing the dirt I often get on my coats. If it lasts as long as my last barn coat I will be completely satisfied.

Rated 4 out of 5 by sweatersavvy Coat is what I expected from the reviews
I had never bought a barn coat from LLBean before, but by reading the reviews I learned that until this year, the shape had been boxier with no princess seams. If I were working on a farm or out in the yard I would not want princess seams because that style limits the amount of layering you can do underneath the coat. For me the princess seams give the coat an attractive shape for walks in the neighborhood, getting groceries and other suburban chores.
I am 5'8", 165 pounds, small shouldered and broad in the waist and hips. I expected a size Large to fit until I read the reviews. My size Medium came today and I am very pleased with the fit. (It is nice to say I am a Medium in something!) The shoulders are a little too wide but don't look bad. The sleeve length is perfect when the cuffs are turned back to show the corduroy. My thick waist seems to disappear even when the coat is fully buttoned, and this is why I'm keeping the jacket. The negative, and why I give it only four stars, is that there won't be any layering going on under this coat. It fits snugly over a heavy cotton shirt, just one layer! This may not suit people who expect a barn coat that fits everywhere else to accommodate a couple layers. But as I said, the shape flatters me. I'm glad I bought this coat and the brick red is a beautiful color.

Rated 5 out of 5 by justmeinpennsylvania The perfect coat
I bought this in red two years ago and it still looks like brand new. It is the perfect coat. I can wear it with bulky sweaters and scarves tucked in and wear it all winter here in Pennsylvania. I can wear it over a long sleeve tee and wear it in Fall and Spring. I bought my husband the men's version in the green and it is stunning. These barn coats are amazing and you won't be disappointed.
