Rated 4 out of 5 by PalominoFlyer Ordered yet 4th coat to get correct size
I do love this coat and have always wanted one to for the stable and an everyday coat. It is cut very strange, I am 5'5" 150 lb and I wear a medium. The medium coat swallowed me and looked like I had borrowed my husband's coat, sleeves were super long, so I ordered a small petite in both flannel and insulated. That was much closer but the shoulders are a bit snug when I tested driving position. The medium petite insulated is on it's way and this Goldilocks hopes this will be a "just right" fit! The insulated is more bang for the buck in my opinion and not bulky.
So definitely order down a size!! and maybe a petite if you don't like longer sleeves/length.

I love these barn coats. Great for walking the dog, gardening, shopping, and everywhere else. Warm, comfortable, good size pockets, and it sheds rain. I have several of these jackets, both flannel lined and quilted. Love both styles. I am short five foot, three inches, but I like the misses regular size. Oh yes, they wash and dry perfectly and with no shrinkage.

I just love this coat! I have it in the insulated and regular styles and love both. I use them fall through spring in northwestern Wisconsin (zone 3) making maple syrup, on hikes through the woods, snow shoeing, gardening.... They have plenty of room for sweaters underneath and are wonderfully warm. The construction is sturdy so you don't have to worry about them being too delicate to work in. But the coat is stylish enough to wear to town. Love the cute corduroy collar and cuffs. The blue is a really pretty color, yet good for outdoor work; the green more rugged and outdoorsy. I order my regular size because i do like to layer underneath, and for outdoor work you don't want something too snug. But if you aren't layering i could see the possibility of ordering one size down.

This is my second purchase of the Barn coat. I love this coat and wear it as my winter coat. It is extremely warm and light to wear.
I highly recommend this coat.

As the other reviewers have said, this coat runs big. I usually take a Large in coats because I like to wear bulky sweaters underneath and I am sometimes challenged closing around my hips and tummy. I ordered a Medium in this coat based on the reviews and it is still very roomy! I'm 5'4" and the bottom hits me about mid-thigh. The sleeves fit with a small cuff. I really love this coat and am anxious to see how it performs in cold weather.

Rated 2 out of 5 by LLBeanSpokaneShopper Strange cut for a coat
I see where other reviewers said to order down. I should have as well. It was at least one size too big. If I had, however, it might have been too tight across the chest. (I am a busty hourglass shape). It fit correct at the shoulders and armhole, nearly correct at the bust, but looked like I was wearing a mans coat several sizes larger otherwise. The sleeves were also unusually long. I typically find coats a little long in the sleeve, but this was longer than I typically find by four inches. I'm assuming the cuffs were intended to be decorative and rolled up rather than actually fitting around the wrist, however, with the bulk of the insulated coat, it just looked ridiculous. It might look better on a less curvy figure and ordered two sizes smaller. It was back in the bag and ready to ship back seconds later. Terribly disappointed, and am having to shop elsewhere

Rated 2 out of 5 by fredalyn Barn Coat not actually meant for the BARN anymore
I am a true country girl I have 3 of these coats. The first one for spring (light lining) old style. The 2nd for fall (flannel lining) new style. The 3rd for winter ( insulated lining) new style.
I can honestly say the old style fit better and was more functional. The barn coat of todays style is tight in shoulders and the top pockets aren't deep enough. Even if you put your keys in them you have to worry if they're going to fall out let alone trying to put your gloves in them.
I just looked at the Man's Barn Coat now that is the top pocket that I miss. Oh and they have a pocket on the chest with a zipper.
My conclusion the Barn Coat has changed from it's functional use in the barn/farm to I look pretty.
I will be ordering the mens the next time if LL Bean doesn't do a change.

Just received the coat in Red; everything about this coat is nice Except the styling. I ordered a Petite Large after reading all the reviews about sizing issues; still not a good fit. I normally wear an XL in a coat so that I can layer, the L I received is still to big. The coat looks like the shape of a bell when it is on; it seems to flare out at the hips, not an attractive look at all. The weight and color are great and especially the length; however the sleeves are longer than I would like. I think i will try the men's version as it has a straight cut.

Rated 5 out of 5 by CMB6 Great jacket!
This is my second insulated barn coat. I love the feel and warmth of this casual coat! I did go a size smaller with the new one after reading the reviews and glad I did. The M is still loose enough for a sweater on colder days, but not too big feeling. My old jacket was a large and fit just a little but bigger than the new medium. I also usually wear petite for my short arms, but got a regular so I could roll over the cuff to show the corduroy lining. At 5'4", I'm just at the edge of petite.
