miss the old barn coat!!!! I went to replace mine, needed a different size, and they've made changes that are just for fashion or cost cutting sake...Its a generally well made...but you've shorten the hand worming pocket so your hands don't really have enough room and things fall out too...also the new "tab" in the back takes it in and further limits immovability.... quit trying to make it a fashion statement.. Its for WORKING outside ...Its the only warm, great coat you had for us ranch/horse people to do our chores in . If you want a fashion coat there are plenty others you offer but PLEASE leave us farm folk one good coat!!!! please bring back the old coat!!! If you let us know we will flood you with new orders!!!!

This is a very nice coat and a great value. But the coat runs HUGE...I usually wear a women's size large (5'8" tall and 135lbs.) but ended up getting a women's small which fits well. I ordered the Deep Red and like the color because it is a barn red which works great for this barn coat. I got the insulated lining because I live in SF which can be chilly and most of my family lives in the Midwest & East Coast so it will be perfect for when I travel there in the colder months.
I also ordered the same coat for a good friend in Loden Green for a gift and she loves it.
I would have given this product 5 stars but I had to return the coat twice due to the coat running very big. I would suggest to others ordering this coat to buy it 2 sizes down.

Bought this coat in December 2011. I read most of the reviews stating sizing issues. On behalf of LL Bean, this barn coat was made extremely well. I was a design student and appreciate anything off the rack with the kind of detail this coat has. Sizing is a matter of preference and fit. I love the fit. I am 5'5" and weigh in at 170 pounds. I am a body builder and have broad shoulders. I ordered a large, but had to return it for a medium. I do layer during the winter months, but never bulky. LL Bean's return policy is great. So I had to wait for the medium. No problem. Every time I wear this coat, I get lots of great compliments.

I paid attention to the reviews & sized down, with wonderful results. I normally wear Medium, but Small still gives me ample room for layering (am 5'7", 145 lb). I live north of 60 deg. latitude, and this coat has been wonderful for walking my border collie in all weather. The cargo pockets are fantastic for carrying a leash, tissues, etc, and the hand-warming pockets, though not large, do work well. My jack russell raked her claws across the front when I picked her up - she did this once previously with a different new LLB jacket, and left a series of tears which I had to live with - not so with this jacket; didn't leave a mark on this tough material. I know I will get years of good wear out of this, and as a bonus, the color (purple) is fabulous, and I got a marvelous sale price. Thank you, LL Bean!

i was going to order this coat online, however, with all the comments regarding size and fit, i decided to see if they had it at the store so i could try it on. luckily, they had it in the clearance section (with an added 30% off the sale price to boot!) even though the "in-store availability" online said it wasn't available there. it does run big as usually i would take a medium or even a large and the small fit perfectly. the fit...well, it's a barn coat...so that's how it looks. i was going to give it only 4 stars due to the crazy sizing and also the "hand warming" pockets are a bit small but the extra 30% off i received at the store surely made up for it. i'm so happy i went shopping today!

The other reviewers are right about the sizing problems . I wanted to give this item 4 stars because of the quality and look of the garment but the fit of this coat is perplexing and awkward. I'm a short big gal with a big bust. A 3X is too big but a 2X is almost but not quite right. The sizing is about a half size off. A 2 1/2 X would probably be perfect. As it is, the fit is adequate but a bit snug especially in the upper arm area and back. I don't see being able to comfortably wear anything bulky or thick under this coat. The sleeves run long but I compensated for it by folding back the nice corduroy cuffs. The coat looks great and is functional for a city dweller like me to walk the dog in but I can understand how customers who actually need a good work coat or had the prior version would be disappointed both with the fit and shallow pockets. The insulation seems adequate for moderately cold weather. A disappointing fit for the price but the quality and look are so good that I'm keeping it. Besides I'm tired of paying the shipping fees to send it back for yet another exchange. Too bad because I really wanted to get a second one in Deep Red.

I bought one of these a few years ago and loved it but I lost weight and needed a smaller size. The style changed but I still love this coat. I bought it in Loden my favorite color in green and have gotten a lot of compliments on it. I am a petite and 5 foot tall, got a medium petite size and with the sleeves rolled up it was perfect length.for my arms.

Should have heeded the other reviews on the sizing, but I went ahead with my usual size large. This coat runs very big. I am tall - 5'11" and have always worn a large from LLBean. Most of the time the sleeves are too short, but the sleeves on this coat covered half of my hands. Having worn many men's coats to have the sleeves long enough, I think the coat is sized for men. It is well constructed, but did not have any interior pockets.
