I bought my usual size, Large, and had to return it. It was huge. I exchanged it for a Medium. The fit is perfect. I've had a L L Bean barn coat for most of my 70 years. I wear them out.

Rated 2 out of 5 by lakegirl248 Runs big, very unflattering, disappointed
As other reviewers have noted, the jacket runs big...but it really runs very big. It is quite boxy and the opposite of flattering. I normally take a large in LL Bean items and thought about returning it and exchanging for a medium, but I think the medium would just be another unflattering boxy coat. Honestly, my husbands barn coat (in a mens large) looks better on me than this one that is designed for a woman's figure. Plus the pockets are not overly useful - the upper pockets are oddly placed and the lower pockets are not that big and can only be accessed from the top (not the side). So, all in all, I'm returning and won't be ordering the smaller size. Sorry I wasted my $10 coupon on this...

I love this coat, one of the most comfortable coats I own. The best part is the sleeves are loose enough that I can layer a sweater underneath and they don't bind or pull. I've had other coats that make it very hard if you are wearing a fleece or sweater underneath. It always looks nice and wears well.

by Metravis Loved the warmth but poor qualty doesn't hold up
I bought the insulated barn coat and loved the warmth, even the sleeves were insulated enough to to keep my arms warm here in Western Michigan's cold and snowy winters! However, after two seasons of wear, the poor quality material and construction that wasn't evident at first is showing. I have washed the coat four times, following the tag's instructions. I have the dark green coat. It is now a medium to light green coat, with orangey patches. More concerning is the wear along the seams of the sleeves, where holes are developing. I love the warmth and the style, so I will be testing the LLBean lifetime guarantee and attempting an exchange. Just be aware that this could happen to your coat. if LLBean's merchandising department sees this review, I would also love an inner pocket!

Rated 2 out of 5 by ThePeaPrincess Pockets are too small to hold a knit hat
Noticing that the patch pockets on my 2015 2X barn coat were too small to hold my knit hat, I measured them in comparison to an old blue corduroy 3X LL Bean barn coat that I had. Pockets on the old coat were 8" wide, 8-1/2" tall and non-gusseted. The chest pocket openings were 6-1/2". Pockets on the new coat are 6-3/4" wide and gusseted. The actual pocket is 6" vertically not counting the flap but since the flap is sewn 1/2" above the pocket the overall height is 6-3/4". The chest pockets are 5-5/8" wide.
Conclusion: The gussets make the coat look lumpy when something is in it and do not make up for the loss in pocket size of 1-1/4" horizontally and 1-3/4" vertically. You also lose 7/8" in chest pocket length.
This comparison is not entirely legit because we are comparing a 2X to a 3X but this loss of pocket size is not an improvement.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MsClaus Love My Barn Coat!
The perfect Weekend Jacket does exist! I love everything about this jacket. The fuller cut allows for layering in the early morning hours yet it doesn't feel too big when the temps warm and I remove my sweater. It keeps me warm, the longer length covering my backside, the boxy cut allowing me to button it without it being too tight in the hip and thigh area.
Paired with jeans and boots, this jacket will remain in style for a very long time!
Great job LL Bean!

Rated 3 out of 5 by ThePeaPrincess Pockets are smaller compared to past years
It has been over 5 years since I purchased a barn coat from L L Bean. The pockets were much larger. Although the pockets on the new coats are gusseted, they still won't hold a knit hat. I wish they would redesign the coat keeping the boxy style, the chest pockets, the lower pockets, but make it more stylish by eliminating the contrast collar and cuffs and offering it in purer, prettier colors. I wish they would eliminate the princess seaming. I hate princess seaming.

Rated 4 out of 5 by klkap Adirondack barn coat with insulation
Nice and warm! and it runs big so there's plenty of room for a heavy sweater under it if it gets really cold outside. Convenient buttoned patch pockets, so gloves won't fall out.

I have worn this jacket for years-previously with the removable wool lining. This is the first time I have had the thinsulated jacket. So far I love it.

Bought this coat for my daughter (early Christmas gift). She loves it! We purchased the Insulated Adirondack Barn Coat in Red. Best part - so far it is the only one she has seen on her college campus!
I grew up with LL Bean and now she can too!
