Rated 3 out of 5 by Slides2015 Not sized well and meant for heavy outdoor use
I really wanted to like this jacket, because it is very warm and the outer layer seems very durable, but it is uncomfortable and awkward to wear especially if you are a commuter in the NYC/NJ area who uses public transportation.
I'm 5'7" and 180lbs and the medium was too big for me and reading other reviews I imagine the small would be too small for me. It's way too bulky to wear on the crowded NYC subways.
This might work better for people who work outdoors a lot and don't mind the extra bulk.

This coat is multi-purpose and warm in any purpose. I have had the down liner out to wear and it will keep one warm in most dry situations that I am likely to encounter. The outer jacket, alone or with the shell inserted is amazing. It fits well through the shoulders and chest for me too. I am going to Wisconsin and try it out over xmas and I think I will be quite happy with the results!

Very happy! I first Looked at and ordered another coat from LL Bean; large was to big! Im 5'9 180 BLS! Measured myself; found I took a medium! I ordered a medium Main Wardens Parka; sent the other coat back! Great customer service! This Main Warden Parka fit perfect! First; rich deep pine tree green color! Nice! This is a strong tuff solid coat! It fit snug! Nice! Padded hood; very nice!
I live in the Blue Mountains of the NorthWest; it gets cold, and it snows! And this coat is perfect! and it will work great with my new LL Bean snow pants and Snow Boots and gloves! Got the whole package!
Versatility; 2 coats in one!
I took out the center padded coat that is snapped into the main shell! Very nice! Fits well, and looks good! Remember; be gentle when taking this out! Slow down and Un-snap each button to remove inner coat!
Outer shell; What a surprise! Warm wonderful solid outer shell! Fits great and is water proof; has a great look! Its great for Fall as a shell! Then when snow its; snap the inner lined coat back into place and you have a solid strong confident winter coat!
Im a mountain biker! Ill use this coat mainly on my bike in my small town of 40,000, during winter; store runs, night time 12 step meetings! Gym; Basic town commuter coat! Its long enough in the back for my mountain bike experiences and cold night riding!
You can get away with wearing only one bike jersey with this coat; no need to layer with its inner lining intact!
Im very pleased! My mother shops at LL Bean; she buys all her cloths here! And now Its where I shop!

I ordered this coat for my boyfriend. We were both sad that I had to return this, because it is a phenomenal coat!!! It is super warm without being bulky, and the detachable hood and liner give you multiple possibilities. He is a broader guy, and unfortunately the coat is cut very straight, and does not fit him right. It would be nice if it was cut a little wider for bigger guys. Other than that, both of us would highly recommend it!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by DaveEA Almost the perfect extreme-cold parka
Good lucks, tough fabric that is truly waterproof, serious hood for the lowest temps. The only improvement I'd make is to add a little looseness under the arms; it's a little tight. Sizing was true and consistent with other Bean outdoor jackets and parkas in the chest, waist, length of main jacket and sleeve length (this parka is pretty generous in the sleeve length). I've had the Parka through two seasons, but have not had the need to wash it yet, so I cannot comment on the durability of the waterproofing.

This is a well made garment with pockets everywhere. Two coats in one. Down plus gore tex: should be warm in all weather, rain or shine. And not bulky either. Great arm range of movement. Even the hood is lined with down. Finally, a coat you can depend on to keep you warm.

These are the warmest, most durable , light weight jackets we have ever owned. Do not hesitate to order as they don't last long before selling out, well worth the money, we have had our first ones for 15 years & only ordered new because our old ones are getting tired, they also wash up great. They keep us toasty warm up in northern Maine, have never been cold.

I bought them in the past, and was more than satisfied. This one is even nicer since the innder fleece jacket is very nice by itself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by veryslowrunner Great parka!
I am petite and female...the small is perfect; I have long arms for my height. I purchased this as a survival parka(must drive to work regardless of weather). When we have substantial snow and ice, the odds of getting stuck without heat for 24 hours or more is not trivial(despite AWD, winter tires or chains....the traffic
blockages cause it). I've been to Everest base camp and I wish I had taken this there...though not lightweight, it is so warm. The green color is beautiful. In case other women want to try this parka, I'm 36, 27, 37. This parka seems better insulated and better made than my other name brand women's parka, and love the pockets...great if one has to hike out of most anywhere in cold and wet conditions.

Giving this 5 stars and it's not even cold out yet. It fits perfectly (female, 5'7", 140 lbs - got the small) and the materials and workmanship are superb! I have and love 2 of the older model Rugged Ridges and love them. Bring on the cold, would rather be out than in....I'm ready! Also love the green.
