I had a great LL Bean Storm Chaser Jacket that worked fantastically well in Vermont for 5+ years. It was a great coat for all but the coldest days (when the length and thickness of a down parka was needed). It was light, but warm. However, the zipper finally gave out and I decided to replace it last year.
I reordered in the Spring ('14) and was told it wouldn't ship until June/July. I finally got it in the Fall. I immediately discovered that the smooth nylon-like quilted lining of my old coat had been replaced by some kind of fuzzy material that is nearly as adherent as Velcro. It is absolutely terrible. When I put it on, the interior lining (which is not well attached to the main shell) sticks to my shirt or sweater and slides down out of sleeve 4 or 5 inches. When I take it off, the lining pulls nearly out of the sleeve.
Once on, it is quite warm, but the friction of the lining against almost any other material makes pulling the coat on and off a real chore for an older guy.
THIS IS A COMPLETE QUALITY-OF-EXPERIENCE CHANGE FROM THE ORIGINAL (PRE-2014) VERSION!!!!
I would not recommend this to anyone. I will not order such a coat from LLBean again.
I am very disappointed that this company is trying to be trendy, rather than continuing its tried and true models. Time to find another outdoor outfitter for Vermonters.

Rated 5 out of 5 Storm Chaser 3-in-1 Jacket Excellent
I recently purchased a Storm Chaser 3-in-1 jacket from L.L. Bean. I like it a lot It is the second Storm Chaser 3-in-1 jacket I have had. I had the other one for a long time and liked it so much that I wanted to buy another one just like it. I walk a mile nearly every day, even in the winter, and the jacket keeps me warm and sheds the rain and snow pretty well, too.

Bought this coat for my husband, who believes that your 3 season coat can be worn in below zero temperatures.
After he wore the coat for the first time he said "Thank You"

This is an awesome warm and comfortable jacket with fleece in...I wear it at below zero temps. Great in snow and rain as well.

Purchased this item after Christmas. Very warm. Good color. Well satisfied. Only issue I have is that the lining extends well beyond the sleeve when putting it on. Requires pulling back the excess with the other hand. Other than that, this is a great item.

I received this product as a gift. This is a tale of two jackets. The inner lining is soft warm and with ample room for layering. On the other hand, the shell leaves plenty to desire. The nylon material is stiff and feels more like your wearing plastic (another reviewer reported it melted when left near a heating grate or radiator). The sleeves are narrow and constrictive, and does not allow for much layering. It's not as wind resistant as advertised. I wore it in 30 mph winds in 30+ F temps and it didn't protect well. Furthermore, it does not breathe well, so it doesn't keep you as dry as you hope, even on casual walks. The shell and lining don't appear to be made for each other. You need to pull the lining sleeves down in when you first put on the jacket and then tuck the ends inside the shell. It also doesn't breathe well. This one is going back.

Rated 4 out of 5 by GoneHikingVA Worthy of its name
For me, the biggest advantages of this jacket are as follows. The description says it is windproof, and by gosh, it really is. (Note: some of Bean's waterproof jackets are NOT windproof, only wind resistent - I NEED WINDPROOF). Next, you can put a lot of layers underneath it (even with fleece liner installed), enabling to be extremely warm in sub-freezing weather. Finally, it looks good even though the fit is a little baggy. The biggest disadvantages are: (1) fit is a little baggy; (2) when fleece liner is installed, it is difficult to get put your arm through the sleeves.Bottom Line: this is a versatile jacket capable of protecting you against some bad Maine weather!

Rated 3 out of 5 by silverbullet001 Good Jacket but liner has issues
Great Jacket but the unlined fleece liner makes it a pain to wear this jacket with any long sleeved shirt or sweater. The jacket would be absolutely outstanding if the liner sleeves had a light nylon liner like many winter jackets. A simple fix.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Beezeus This is my daily wear winter jacket
Unlike other reviewers I haven't had any trouble with the liner being 'sticky' though I understand how this could be an issue. I wear this jacket with either a t-shirt underneath, or with the ascent packable jacket underneath (basically a jacket liner, though a good one!) I know for a fact it is wind and waterproof, the hood unravels from the collar very easily on the fly. I walk my dogs two or three time daily and this jacket has kept me warm and dry even in the dreaded 30's and driving rain/drizzle. At 6'2" and 215lbs I opted for the XXL Tall allowing me to layer clothes underneath. The one time it got down to around 20 this year I wore the jacket, the ascent packable jacket, and the traverse down shirt underneath without feeling like the little boy in 'A Christmas Story' Though honestly I could have left either the down shirt or the packable liner at home. It is not too bulky for me and because of the clothing I wear underneath, I do not have the issues with the fleece liner being 'sticky' like others have mentioned, so just consider what you are most likely to wear underneath and make sure it will slide easily in and out of the fleece liner. Another positive for this jacket is its affordability.
