Rated 4 out of 5 by agupte049 Versatile Jacket for All Weather
This jacket contains a waterproof "shell" outer layer and a fleece inner layer. However, since the fleece jacket can be detached from the waterproof layer, many possibilities arise with its usage. For rain, just the waterproof shell will keep the top of the body completely dry. However, the inner fleece jacket, when worn, still looks like a jacket that can be bought separately. It is, however, extremely warm. For me, just the fleece jacket can keep me warm with temperatures down to 15 degrees Fahrenheit. For colder temperatures, the waterproof shell can be added, but does not provide much insulation. In conclusion, this jacket is best when it is separate, and putting them together does not keep you warm from subzero temperatures, but the fleece jacket is amazingly warm given how thin it is.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Dcruz97 3 jackets in one my son loves it.
My son loves this jacket, he has a rain coat, a light spring jacket, and a heavy jacket for the winter. This jacket would be perfect if the hoody was just as heavy as the jacket, still love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by buyitnowhere Storm Chaser 3 in 1 Black Jacket size XL Great Fit
Bought this jacket for husband and he wore it all winter in Massachusetts and we got a lot of cold snowy weather this winter 2013- 2014. He loves all the extra pockets especially the hidden ones. He only wore a short sleeve polo shirt and was plenty warm because of the liner. If you wear chamois shirts go another size up. Wish it had a fleece type liner in the hood for warmth. Would recommend this jacket to anyone who lives in cold weather.

Rated 5 out of 5 by RomRom Excellent rain & snow jacket
I primarily use this jacket as a rain shell, and it does a great job for three seasons of the year. It's roomy without the liner so I can easily pull it on over a sweater, which is my primary mode of dress in the cooler seasons.
I zipped the fleece liner into it for the first time this last February when we had some very snowy and cold conditions and it kept me plenty warm. All in all an excellent, affordable addition which I would definitely buy again.

I've worn this jacket through two winters in Michigan. This past winter was the worst I remember in my 60+ years and the Storm Chaser 3-in-1 didn't skip a beat. It kept me warm and dry through blizzard conditions, snow, sleet, and rain.
I did find the collar too tight for a scarf. This became an issue this winter when it was essential to cover my face during a three week run of sub 0 temperatures. In addition, I'm not enamored with the black/olive combination and would prefer a black/black.
That said, the jacket is an excellent value, The full jacket handled the -15 to -20 below January temperatures and the fleece liner by itself handled today's 55 degree temperature! That's true versatility!

Rated 3 out of 5 by Blue118 Nice Jacket, BUT!
Jacket is nice, but the problem with the liner sleeves is a big pain. It is a fight to put the jacket on, then you have to fight fix the sleeves, again to take it off.
I called Ll tonight about something else, and asked the young man, about the jacket. "I am not aware of any problems about this jacket."
This may be true, but looking at the reviews here, LL Bean should be.

Rated 3 out of 5 by freebieandthebean Not bad, not perfect
24 hours after purchase, I can say the following:
Nice styling. Nice color choices.
NO visible branding/logo to speak of. HUGE plus in my book.
Seems more than adequate in the warmth department.
It passed my "spray it with water from the sink gun to test it's water reistance" test well. (I saw that others had differing opinions on this aspect of coat.)
Generally feels good.
Outer pockets are small, and only three total. Good luck if you want to carry big gloves, a hat, and scarf with you.
Does seem to attract some lint/debris on the dark color.
A little too short. Could use a few more inches in length.
Outer shell only has 3 pockets total inside and out. This is not enough for those days you go without fleece lining. (Liners adds some additional pockets.) A big flaw to me.
The oft-mentioned issues with the fleece liner. This is not a huge issue though.
You could do better, and you could do worse. I'd recommend it to a friend with the above caveats.

My husband really likes this jacket. Using both pieces together, he wears it all winter and stays very warm. The layers worn individually throughout the rest of the year make it a very versatile garment! Nice array of pockets. It runs true to size. Thanks, LLBean, for offering tall sizes. The Nautical Red/Graphite is a very nice color combination. Jacket still looks great after much use!

Rated 4 out of 5 Storm Chaser 3-in-1 Jacket
This may sound a little picky but I purchased the same jacket 9-10 years ago. Nothing but kudos for that jacket. Only had to order a new one because it started to look worn. The pocket sizes in the new version were made smaller and not as deep. I don't think that the fact the new version is made in Thailand versus the older version being made in Bangladesh is the issue. More than likely they were trying to save a few bucks in cost. The pockets won't hardly hold anything. Can't put more than a pair of gloves in them and because they are shallow other objects will fall out. Haven't been in the rain yet to see if the seams have issues.
