Rated 5 out of 5 by Beezeus This is my daily wear winter jacket
Unlike other reviewers I haven't had any trouble with the liner being 'sticky' though I understand how this could be an issue. I wear this jacket with either a t-shirt underneath, or with the ascent packable jacket underneath (basically a jacket liner, though a good one!) I know for a fact it is wind and waterproof, the hood unravels from the collar very easily on the fly. I walk my dogs two or three time daily and this jacket has kept me warm and dry even in the dreaded 30's and driving rain/drizzle. At 6'2" and 215lbs I opted for the XXL Tall allowing me to layer clothes underneath. The one time it got down to around 20 this year I wore the jacket, the ascent packable jacket, and the traverse down shirt underneath without feeling like the little boy in 'A Christmas Story' Though honestly I could have left either the down shirt or the packable liner at home. It is not too bulky for me and because of the clothing I wear underneath, I do not have the issues with the fleece liner being 'sticky' like others have mentioned, so just consider what you are most likely to wear underneath and make sure it will slide easily in and out of the fleece liner. Another positive for this jacket is its affordability.

The jacket is well designed and well made (except as noted below) and is quite warm with the lining in place. The zippers work well. The jacket is loose without the lining and tight with it in place. Without the lining it does not offer much in the way of warmth.
My main complaint is that, even with the lining fully zippered in and all snaps in place, when I put the jacket on the sleeve lining pops out of each sleeve and I have to spend some time getting it back in place. The opposite happens when I remove the jacket, the lining pulls into the sleeves. Part of the problem is that the fleece lining has a lot of friction and so is forced to move when inserting or removing your arms. If the lining was a bit "slippery" maybe this would not happen.
If I weren't traveling, I would have sent it back by now and will do so when I return. Maybe I have extra thick arms that cause this (I don't think so), but I think it is difficult to design a jacket with a removable fleece lining and this jacket has the problem stated. There need to be more snaps or Velcro (or equal) to keep the lining in place. Keep this in mind.

Great jacket, fitted so not bulky as most winter jackets tend to be. Separates into 3 separate jackets for very cold, milder, cool temperatures. My advice if you are 6 feet tall or taller, go for the tall size, you wont regret it

Rated 4 out of 5 by S2Stew Good medium-warmth jacket and shell
For the price, this is a good jacket. The fleece liner jacket is well-designed with plenty of well-placed pockets. This attaches to the shell with 2 zippers and 3 sets of snaps, which hold the layers together pretty well. I walked the dogs and work it to work today when it was 5 degrees, though it wouldn't be warm enough for extended outings at that temp.
Pros: Looks good, especially the fleece. Good pocket placement. Good fit for medium build (I'm 5'11", 185 pounds). The shell has a hood, though I'll never use it.
Cons: Outer shell fabric is noisy and not very wind-proof, reducing the warmth of this jacket. No draw string on shell. Shell pockets are not insulated, which makes for cold hands. When you pull the combined jacket on, the sleeve cuffs bunch up at the end, a minor annoyance. The zipper could be beefier; I find it hard to match the 2 sides when zipping, but that could be me.

Outer jacket is wonderful. Sized right, built well, and weatherproof. Only problem and I read other reviews saying same thing: is the fleece inner lining(coat) Just about anything I wear drags these extremely longsleeves out. It is not easy slipping it on and off. I WILL USE IT A WHILE LONGER BUT IT IS NOT EASY TO WEAR. If they would have a Velcro or snap that would hold the sleeves I think that might help. Wore the fleece alone once and it was fine just a little long in the sleeves. Does not make sense to make an inner jacket longer sleeved than outer jacket???

Rated 1 out of 5 by CburgShopper Excellent, except . . .
The unlined fleece liner makes it almost impossible to wear this jacket with any long sleeved shirt or sweater. The jacket would be absolutely outstanding if the liner sleeves had a light nylon liner like many winter jackets. A simple fix. Am surprised that LL Bean would let this obvious deficiency occur

Rated 3 out of 5 by 04103 fine -- but two qualifications: length and zipper
I've downgraded this from five to three stars because of the following problems.
(1) Body length. I ordered a tall jacket. The sleeves are suitably long, but the body seems to be a normal length rather than tall. It's as if the people who cut the patterns for this tall jacket weren't speaking to each other.
(2) Zipper. Why does L.L. Bean no longer make jackets with two-way zippers? Being able to unzip the bottom when I'm warm or sitting down would be a big plus.

If you wear a flannel shirt, sweater, or sweatshirt under this jacket liner you will struggle mightily against the friction in the arms each you put it on or take it off.

This is one of those jackets LL Bean has lost money on. I can't tell you how many times I've window shopped for new jackets and decided against it because there's nothing wrong with my old trusty Storm Chaser. I've had it since it was originally introduced and I have nothing to complain about. Snow, rain, wind - no problem, and it keeps me warm well below freezing.
