I bought this hat for my husband for when he uses the snow blower. He had been complaining that sometimes it's very windy and his face gets very cold. He's worn the hat the past couple of snow storms and likes it. He wore the hat today in 12 degree temps and a wind chill lower than that. He says the fit is perfect and his face stays warm.

The Polartec Powder Dry Balaclava does a great job keeping my head, ears, neck and throat very warm while walking, snow blowing the driveway and hiking. The balaclava is not too tight around the head, allows a helmet or another hat to go on top, feels snug and is amazingly warm.
I like the fact the balaclava extends far enough to cover the neck and throat area and can be worn covering the moth and nose. The material is very lightweight, soft and appears durable.
The balaclava offers excellent cold weather protection as well as wind chill protection.
I am extremely happy with this product.

We got the childrens one for our daughter, which she is just thrilled with. My husband thought he would like one too. It's great when we are walking on those cold and windy days!!!!

We're recent transplants from TX to upstate NY, where temperatures have been in the teens lately. We started our walks with ordinary hats and scarves, but were still freezing by the time we got back to the house. It wasn't very fun.
When I ordered these balaclavas for the two of us, we were admittedly skeptical. We first wore them on a 12 F night with light snow, and were amazed at the difference it made. They're not bulky, and they hold in the right amount of heat. I haven't needed a scarf or hat since I started wearing mine; my husband still wears a scarf with his. When the wind is blowing, sometimes I pull the hood of my coat over the balaclava as a windbreaker.
The only problem we have had is that our glasses tend to fog up when we pull the balaclava fabric up over nose and mouth. But we had that problem with our scarves, too. I tend to wear mine with the nose and mouth exposed to prevent fogging. I wouldn't let that hinder you from buying this great item, though. It has made a huge difference in our outdoor winter comfort.

Rated 5 out of 5 Very warm, light & comfortable
I spend most of my days in the winter outside; this balaclava is the perfect weight to stay warm without being obtrusive. I have a large head (7 3/4 hat size) and I often find headgear to be too tight. This, however, is very flexible and perfectly sized. I wear it in rain, snow, wind- it's comfortable in all conditions! It is durable as well, and packs super small to easily be carried in my coat pocket when not in use. Excellent product!

Bracing for another cold, snowy winter here in Montreal, I bought one of these because I was sick of wrapping a scarf around my face. It is far superior. It breathes nicely, and dries quickly. However, I recommend only putting it on once you are in a position where people will not feel threatened to see you wearing a balaclava. I was leaving school the other night and nearly gave a couple a heart attack when the elevator doors opened and I was standing there looking like a menace. keep it in mind.

Moderate wind blocker, but not a cold blocker because it's so thin.

Tight, thin, did not keep me warm. Had to wear a scarf over it.

I bought this for my husband and he likes it, even though we hqve not had our typical winter here in Iowa. It's nice that he gets warmth and coverage without the bulk. He walks the dog a lot and I trust the quality of L.L. Bean.
