I researched the new synthetics. Found that merino wool was probably the better choice. My husband loves his. Soft against the skin. Absolutely not itchy like some wools. Light weight but very warm. Keeps you warm outside without making you too hot when you come back in. As others have said, the fit is not skin tight but it does a great job of keeping warm air next to your skin. I washed it in cold water gentle cycle & hung it up to dry. Came out perfect.

Heavier than what I expected, well made. I love wool for working or hunting in the fall or winter, and this base layer is just the ticket to complete my wardrobe. Very warm, wicks moisture from skin and does not hold body odor.Great Base Layer

If you want performance under wear with true warmth and water evaporation "wicking" properties... look no further. These are the real deal. I own 2 pair of the mid weight and 1 light weight. I am 6'2" and weigh 195. I have a slender build and wear pants with a 34 to 35" waist and 32" to 33" inseam. The large tall fit perfectly. I wear them hiking at Red River Gorge and Natural Bridge In January. The weather would change in a matter of minutes as I would walk around to a side of the mountain that was in bright warm sun light with no breeze at all, from a side that had no sun and 15 to 20 mile wind gusts. Lots of heating up and cooling down. These wool base layers never got damp and uncomfortable like the cotton ones I used to wear have. As always, Bean delivers on time. I've returned things in the past (size exchanges mostly) with no hassle. Great customer service. Great quality. It's so good to be able to deal with a first rate organization.

Just back from a winter trip to Baxter. These are warm and fit my 5'9" 175 # body very well- medium. I have the top as well and use it all of the time.

The Cresta merino wool base layer is comfortable to wear. In my opinion, this product performs as well as a comparable Smart Wool product for significantly less cost. I liked my first set so well, I bought a second set.

Just got these in time for 0-10 degree test while walking dog for about 30 minutes along a open area of river side with wind blowing. Worked great. Have used Ebtex layer over last 10 years. Cresta are better and they are loose fitting. And they don't pull down underwear like Ebtex do. If you can't stand cold legs and like comforable layering go the $50-60 for these Crestas. My hope is that they wear and wash as good as the Ebtex.

I've been a merino wool fan for more than 25 years, but these are some of the best I've used. Really warm and very comfortable. I forgot I was wearing them when I took my daughter sledding up in the mountains.

If you live where the temperature hovers just above freezing, these are for you. Wool insulates even when damp and is breathable when warm.

I ordered these for my husband and he has worn them everyday since, about 10 days now. I did manage to wash them one night and he went to the dryer in the morning to pull them out. The washing instructions are to wash in cold water and line dry. I washed in warm and machine dried, warm. They did not shrink, not that we noticed anyway. They are not itchy.
Got medium for a 33-34 waist. He has thin hips and legs. 5'8".
