by saxon7 very nice!
I had these boots out on their first real hike today.
I really liked them. They had a fantastic balance of support and ground feel.
I was a little concerned that traction might be a problem with the mild looking tread but I found that the stick rubber compound made them really quite grippy on a verity of terrains. Where they did slip, you'd be hard pressed to find anything that wouldn't have in that situation.
This was a winter hike but the temperature was above freezing. With thick wool socks they were plenty warm and the waxed upper handed the wet snow very well. When I sat down for lunch I could see the water beading up on the canvas and there was no evidence of where the fabric had begun to soak through.
If I had a gripe it would be the fact that when the laces are fully tightened the eyelets come right together. It they aren't tight enough at this point there's no real way of getting your foot cinched in so that your heal won't lift while you're walking.
Overall a very nice performing boot.
PS. A few years ago I converted to minimalist footwear and have, over that time, strengthened up my feet. Its quite possible that if you aren't accustomed to a boot as supple as this your feet will get quite fatigued in mountainous terrain.
Also, with the minimalist footwear, I've strengthened my ankles. If you need support for your ankles you might want to go with a leather upper. The canvas uppers aren't much more than a gaiter for keeping out snow and debris. They offer very little support.

I was given these boots to help me get through the often dreary New England weather. I've never owned a pair of Bean boots (I always wanted them!) and had been using hiking boots to suffer the rain, sleet and snow. These boots are wonderful. The more lightweight canvas allows me to use them in warmer weather, but the material is thick enough not to get chilly when wearing thick socks.
Fit: I wear a 9.5 sneaker and after reading Bean's sizing suggestion decided on the 8. I was worried they might be too tight, especially with thicker socks, but they just get cozier. With the thickest socks they are a bit tight, but this helps with the solid feel of the boot. As one reviewer said, the canvas gives way better than leather would, allowing me to lace them up tight, and oh boy do they feel solid. I skip the top two grommets, allowing me to take them off easier. Don't be worried about the height: that extra 2" covers my ankles wonderfully, and with thick socks and long underwear I can't imagine being cozier on the cold Worcester streets. I wear skinny jeans most of the time and especially with the boots laced to the third-to-last grommet I manage to tuck it all in. I can imagine with looser pants they might bunch up but that's what you get when you wear tall boots! I also sometimes leave the laces untied for quick walks to class, and they are very cozy that way, although I can't describe just how solid these boots feel when you lace them up properly.
Style: Where do I begin. I'm a college student who is admittedly a bit obsessed with sneakers. These have put the coziest and most stylish suede Adidas low tops on the sidelines. Apparently Bean boots fell out of style for college-aged kids for a bit and right now are experiencing a boom - I see them everywhere on campus and LL Bean is experiencing a shortage! There's nothing better than this pair though - they're unique but built on a well-trusted platform. They're taller but actually less flashy than the standard brown leather Bean boots, but to the keen eye they are sleeker, more fitting to my neutral colored clothing palette, and the green oozes that dreary New England-city-in-the-winter feeling - in a good way! They are very at home on any street or field. The green ("marsh brown") is wonderful. They do remind me of the classic jungle combat boots, but more refined, civilized, and of much better quality. I'm sure the "saddle" color is beautiful in person as well. I've gotten many compliments on them, and I'm honestly not surprised - they're beautiful. These boots look and feel at home whether you're walking the city streets or carrying in firewood in your peaceful New England town. I swear these will remain my go-to footwear in rainy conditions year-round - my hiking boots and black-soled skate shoes just can't stack up in any way.
Additional comments: The leather trim is unbelievably soft - I find myself stroking the inside of the pull loops in the middle of class. The neutral shade and style of the boot is perfect for any situation - I've managed to pull them off with skinny pants and a dress shirt during semi-formal family events (read: Thanksgiving). I also like the slightly bunched-up look they take on when you skip a few grommets and really lace them up tight. It gives them this carefree-but-slightly-refined look. Again, these are SOLID boots - they form to the foot perfectly and it's honestly a joy to trot down the street in these.
The bottom line is if you're looking for a stylish, functional boot to wear year-round, I can't think of a better one. LL Bean has been a family and personal favorite my entire life, and you can certainly trust that their trademark quality is ever present here! Buy these boots!

At the time these were a little bit of a hassle to obtain. ( in and out of stock etc ) I was a tad bit weary of the height of the boot but when they arrived and were laced up, I was sold. This is my second pair of boots with L.L. Bean and I'm amazed at how light they are, but the waxed canvas especially. Great boot, warmer than you'd expect (De), looks nice and well worth.

I have many pairs of Bean Boots and these end up being my go-to boots during the winter months along with my anniversary pair. I was immediately drawn to this new style canvas upper and I have really liked how the material is able to be cinched down more so than the traditional leather upper.

Finally made the jump and got them. More expensive than I'd prefer, but at least I know I'm paying for quality. I thought they looked like the old school combat boots and thus awesome. They were backordered nearly two months, and came in early after about 2 1/2 weeks.
Even though the comments said order down a size, I went with my gut and got my normal size. In thick socks they fit like a glove, haven't tried them with lighter socks yet, but I do plan on wearing them year round.
Wore them around the house for a full day, they felt like a dream. I took a nap in them! That night I wore them out to the bars, and even ended up on a dance floor in them. Not ideal, but they were comfortible, never once bothered me, and no one stepped on *my* toes ;# They're not as clunky as other boots I've got, in fact they're extreeeemely lightweight. Feels like sneakers. I got loads of comments from friends and strangers.
As if the universe wanted me to take these puppies for a real spin, my second day with them it rained. I intentionally walked through puddles for the first time since I was a child. Didn't feel a drop. Stomped through some snow too, traction isn't the best on ice, but I felt stable.
Overall, I want to rate these 0 stars so no one else will buy them and I'll be even cooler for having them, but that just wouldn't be honest. I'll round my 4.5, #because of the traction,) up to a 5.

Just when I thought I could not be happier with my L.L.Bean experience, I bought a pair of these Waxed Canvas Maine Hunting Shoes. It don't get no better, folks (southern dialect implied). They are quite stylish as you can tuck your pants into the boot or drape them over and look trendy either way. I consider them to be the perfect blend of modern and classic footwear.
I tested them out immediately and wore them while working on a disc golf course design. With all the recent precipitation the ground is pretty sloppy. Mud and water were no match for these shoes, and the hike was quite comfortable as well. Be sure to adhere to the sizing chart guidelines for boots. I typically wear a 9.5, and the 8 is perfect.
It is no surprise these boots are legendary. The craftsmanship is superb and L.L.Bean's quality guarantee is unbeatable. And to top it all off, not only are they made in the USA, they are made locally in Maine - the way it should be.

I NEVER write reviews on anything. Even great things, I unfortunately never find time to write about, however it would be a crime for me not to say something. This boot is perfect. Light, warm, looks awesome, and feels amazingly comfortable. Do order a size down though.
Additionally, Bean Customer Service has to be the best in the world. I spoke with real people, who knew my name without having to tell them, made returning the first pair virtually work-hassle-stress free. They even chatted with me about color, and ensured me that my new pair would be here by Friday at the latest and apologized I didn't get to use my first pair (too big) in latest storm that brought about a foot of snow. Like she actually told me this haha. Outstanding. Seriously they should win an award.

*Disclaimer, it took a couple of times for me to get this right, b/c these boots run Extremely big. I am a size 10 1/2 usually, and I ended up with the 9's, which are a tad snug on the width, but still slip a bit in the heel. Also the color in the pics online is not exactly what you get, the forest color, which another reviewer posted a pic of the pair that came in the box, is much darker, and much better than seen online.
I love these boots, can wear them all year, manhattan to maine.
and love llbean, best customer service and quality in the business.

I got my order extremely quickly. Ordered on a Tuesday, Delivered on a Friday.
The boots even come with a card of who made them, now that's american made.
One thing that surprised me about the boot is how extremely light the boot is. Maybe it's because of the waxed canvas, but the marsh brown looks exactly like the photos but lighter in weight (looks heavier in the photos). I usually wear a 8.5, but ordered a 7 as most boots tend to run 1-1.5 sizes large. It's still roomy, but enough for a thick sock.
