Rated 2 out of 5 by Riverwatch Does not fit bikes with disk brakes
We bought this product and another rack thinking it would fit our mtn bikes. After receiving it and starting to connect it to our bike we found in the directions that a special adapter is needed to attach the rack to the bike if it has disk brakes. It would have been nice if this information had been placed in the on-line description or a link to the extra adapter that is required. Maybe including the adapter in the assembly package would be a good idea, then if you needed it you could attach the rack.

Our mountain bikes have disk brakes and the instructions show that we need to buy adapters for the brackets to fit bikes with disk brakes. It would have been nice to have that information in the catalog description and a link to purchase that item. Right now this item is useless until we are able to buy the adaptive brackets. Actually, with so many bikes with disk brakes this item should be included as an accessory which may be needed.

Rated 2 out of 5 by HappyFeet44 wasn't compatible with my bicycle
I can't really rate nor recommend since I had to return it due to the fact that the rack portion did not fit the bicycle's configuration.

Rated 3 out of 5 by wizard348 Rack is great
I am a retired Mechanical Engineer of 51 years. The rack is very well made. The holes referred to in a previous review are .12 diameter in a rod that is .38 in diameter. There is still over 66% of the rod intact. The aluminum appears to be 5052-H32 which is very durable. Paint is very well done. I received 7 metric screws and no nuts or washers. Instructions were very well made.
My problem is with the panniers or bags that are attached to the rack. They are NOT as big as they look in the photo. Plus the drawstring to close the bags, does not close tight enough to keep water out. I put two boxes of cereal in one bag and could not get but two normal size frozen food boxes in that bag. The problem is the metal frame inside the bag. The frame turns these otherwise semi-soft side bags to the equivalent of hard bags.
The bags go on and off easily so you can take them in the grocery store with you. But there is no room to put much of anything in them. Two loaves of bread, on end, with a dozen eggs, on end next to the bread and you are pretty much tapped out of space. No room for bananas or other fruit. I have a medium size bag on the front that saved me.
I would be sending them back but I had a $50 gift card from my previous employer, so I will just put them on my wife's bike. She can put a small purse, makeup bag, jacket, etc in them. BUT !!! BE AWARE !!! The top of the bags does NOT close enough to keep rain out. There is a little flap that does nothing. The creases in the top of the bag, after you pull it shut, creates rivers that run right down inside the bags. I tried it with my hose and sprayer.
I'll go back to my soft side bags, with the full rain cover and the cheapy frame.
I have to say. I regard anything from LL BEAN to be of the highest quality. You get what you pay for. These bags were a disappointment and really a surprise that Bean would carry them. But they are a high margin item with the cheaply made bags.

Rated 4 out of 5 by polkadots Pretty decent carriers
I am new to commuting by bike - I bought this set mainly to carry all my stuff (laptop, lunch, purse, a few files).
The bag is well thought out - it hooks to the rack securely with a bungee cord and hook on the inside of each side of the bag AND a set of snapped straps that go around the side frame of the rack. When you remove the bag, you can snap the 2 sides together and carry it nicely. It also has hooks to add a shoulder strap. It would be nice if it came with a detachable shoulder strap - I salvaged one from another bag I had at home, and this works nicely for carrying.
The dimensions of each half of the bag are 7.5" W x 12" L (front to back) x ~10" high (with the flaps folded in - taller if you stuff things in)# Each half-bag has a metal brace bar to keep it expanded/give it the rectangular shape# The bottom of the bag is not quite flat to accommodate tires? I'm sorry I don't know the right terms# I had hoped it would fit my laptop - it does sort of - but I probably would not have purchased for this purpose had I had the dimensions of each half-bag#
We were not able to attach the rack to my bike as intended - it seems secure, however# The rack is not as shown in the picture, but has a rectangular shaped side instead of just the triangle# See Delta MegaRack Ultra Universal: http://www#llbean#com/llb/shop/77752?feat=65030-ppxs&dds=y
It would also be nice to have a reflector pre-installed on the back of the rack.
Overall - this has made me able to commute to work. I might upgrade bags at some point to be more laptop-friendly, but these are actually very nice for carrying things on family bike rides and for carrying groceries as advertised.

Rated 1 out of 5 by WaterBaby1 Does this rack work with women's Acadia Cruiser?
Await feedback from installation help at LL Bean. Since they sell this rack and the women's Acadia Cruiser bike, I'd expect that it has been verified / tested out that the installation of this rack set is compatible with the frame of the bike. Our experience is that the rack for the paniers does not line up with the way the bike frame is designed, but we'd like to have an LL Bean installation tester try it out and see if they can make it work with additional parts available from the manufacturer of the rack (Delta). They sell add on clamps and center mount, but I'd like to verify this will work before ordering them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Peter07 great for an urban commute
I just bought this rack with the panniers a few weeks ago and so far have no complaints. It was very easy to set up. I use the panniers to do grocery shopping and to carry any extra baggage. I would recommend these for urban commuters or day trips. The panniers would not be ideal for a long bike trip, but the rack itself is very light.

I got a second-hand mountain bike to commute around town and it was only a matter of time before I invested in some upgrades. This rack and pack set is PERFECT for groceries, a change of clothes/shoes for work, helmet/lock, and anything else I need to carry. Installing the rack to fit with the fender set I also got from LL Bean was the biggest challenge, but the rack just has to be adjusted to fit your bike, and it has been a fabulous investment. In love!

There are no instructions or diagram for attaching the pannier to the rack.
That's probably because The pannier does not attach to the rack as shipped.
The bungees are too short to reach the "Y" at the bottom.
You must drill a hole in the rack for the bungee hooks

Rated 1 out of 5 by Artathome bad design on the rack
The panniers set is fine. The rack is made wholly of aluminum, which is great for keeping weight down, but there is a critical design flaw. The rack is adjustable and the aluminum poles, which are drilled and threaded to provide height adjustment are weakened by said holes. Both of the poles bent at one of the holes within the first two outings. This probably would not be the case if the top height setting was not chosen. It would have been much better if the adjustable poles would have been made of steel (I replaced mine with old screwdriver parts). Therefore, I do not recommend the rack because of the flawed design.
