Rated 4 out of 5 by rito Great Jacket for the Winter
I was fortunate enough to purchase this coat at a clearance price at the end of the past season I believe. This coat is great for COLD. It keeps you very WARM. Once you start moving you heat up very fast and you stay warm. I use it outside all day for skiing all over new england, for biking in the cold, for anything and everything. I recommend this coat for the price I payed considering now it is a steep $200. Is it worth it? Yes and I would probably still pay for it at the higher price. I don't know for sure if it is waterproof, but I have never been wet from it and Ive been soaked in the rain with this thing. Coat has TOO many pockets, I loose things in them, and zipper is not up to par for a coat at this price. Overall, great coat if you can afford it. I still think you could make do with other coats through the winter but with this you are guaranteed to be warm and dry without wearing many layers underneath. Also, coat size is 90% true. I wear a large. It is too roomy at my chest area and fits snug around my waist. I am a 5"6 and a size 12 pants. I think if you were a bit slimmer than me maybe a medium would work out just fine. The medium fit me and zipped up just fine, however the arms were too short for me and I wanted the coat to cover my butt, so I got a large.
Hope this helps

Rated 5 out of 5 by bethgg great coat for colder winter weather
I have had this coat a couple of years in large but recently had knee surgery and have had to lose weight to help my knee heal. I saw it on sale so I decided to reorder it in medium and it fits great...not too tight or loose. (I'm about 5' 4 1/2", 135# at this time).
This coat is super warm and the hood is great to have when taking the dog out at night if I don't want to put my hat on in the below 30's weather. This coat washes pretty well too...you'll just need to add something else in the wash machine to keep things "balanced" when washing it. I got the grey/carbon color, so it get's a little "furry" from the dog but overall is a very nice coat. Also, I like that it's not down.

Rated 4 out of 5 by kaitsmom Perfect fit, very warm, well made
I got this jacket to replace the same item I've had for over 10 years. This new one fits snugger and shorter (which is a good thing), but sleeves are nice and long enough for me. I ordered a medium even though I wear a 6/small in Bean's clothing. The fit is perfect. Sleeves just right, hip room just right, just enough room across shoulders to move but have jacket fit me warmly.
I could do without all the interior pockets that just add bulk, but other than that I love the jacket. I won't be wearing this to ski or do active things in. Mostly just to walk in. It is extremely warm -- they got the "zones" just right!
It's the only jacket I've ever owned that has a very comfortable hood. I can even pull it right up when the jacket is fully zipped to my chin.
I don't like the excessive pockets and the velcro being exposed across most of the lower sleeve.

I love my Rugged Range parka and have worn it for 3 or 4 winters. Winters are long here in Alaska. The parka has kept me warm and dry all that time. I follow the washing instructions and there is no problem.
However, the zipper has failed! It seems such a pity that a $180 dollar parka's longevity depends on a zipper but there you are.
I would still recommend this parka and I will get another, but I really wish LL Bean would use a zipper that matches the overall quality of the garment. Sort of 'for the loss of a nail the kingdom is lost....;

Nice coat but you might want to consider something else. The zipper is sub par for LL Bean. It zips both ways and if you do not double check the bottom zipper that it is all the way down before you unzip the top zipper you will have a mess. You will need to take the coat off over your head and the work with the zippers for about 20 to 30 minutes to get them back on track! Not a great system and very disappointed!

Not recommended. The only good thing I can say about this parka is that it is warm. It is made of a stiff material and is not attractive at all. It takes me three or four tries to get the zipper to work. The color, from the photo, looked like two shades of black, but it is grey and black. Not a good buy even on sale.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Betzd Best jacket ever!
So many superlatives to attach to this jacket! I love it! It's comfortable, fits perfectly, keeps me warm and dry in every kind of weather, doesn't allow wind, rain, or cold to seep in anywhere! I love the soft lining at wrists and neck so there's no chafing and such a simple way to keep nasty weather out comfortably! I also love all the pockets, inside and out! There are plenty of pockets for doggie treats and bags, tissues, money, gloves, hat, sunglasses, lipstick, etc. It's very reasonably priced and is very pretty. And I think I recognize the same jacket on our Weather Channel team even when they're broadcasting from deep in snow country! Thanks, LLBean! I couldn't be happier with mine!

Rated 5 out of 5 by LoftLover Another great LLBean parka!
This is my third LLBean parka and I am sure I will be as satisfied with this one as with my former parkas. Even though I have long arms (I am 5' 8" tall) the sleeves are O.K. The fit is good. Although it is not a down parka, it is incredibly warm and cruelty-free to boot.
A word about the zipper--do not despair. I have had a learning experience with all my LLBean parka zippers. One has to make sure the right hand zipper sits all the way to the bottom before inserting the left hand zipper prong. Zipping up gets easier with use. The top pockets are a little hard to get into, but this is the only flaw I have found. All in all, I am a very satisfied customer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by LifeLongBeaner2 Get 1 (or, 2!)
got this RR to replace my 5-7 yr old one (which has been retired as my dog-walking, firewood-retrieving RR). got the dark teal to replace my old teal/black one. so far, no zipper issues...just gotta hold it a bit taunt at the bottom when zipping it (just like my older version). this is my go-to coat when i need to stay warm.
p.s. ordered the navy color at first but returned it for the much more satisfying teal...would be nice to see this offered next year in the following SOLID colors: dark khaki, steel or mariner blue, sage or dark green, red. Rock On Rugged Ridge!

Rated 5 out of 5 by CooneyGram Recipient loves this jacket!
I bought this jacket on sale and had it sent directly to my daughter in another state. Since it was on sale, I didn't have a lot of color choices. I finally picked "Charcoal w/Black". I wasn't thrilled with the color choice but my daughter phoned tonight to tell me the jacket had arrived and she absolutely loves it. She even loves the color and said the charcoal is more eggplant color. The only thing she would change is to make the sleeves longer. She said the sleeves are a little short and she doesn't have long arms. She said she can live with the short sleeves because the jacket is so perfect otherwise.
