Rated 3 out of 5 by dewman needs more orange
I would definitely buy this coat but a version of it needs to be available that has more orange on it. I won't wear the current version as my outer layer due to insufficient hunter orange, so therefor I won't buy it.

This is a great coat. I returned it because I do not think the material would hold up in Southern briars. It is reinforced in certain areas but the briars I quail hunt in, find the middle of your back. I have a older version of this coat and it works perfectly in South Africa and South Dakota. I have used it bird hunting in both places. African thorns don't grab like southern briars.

Rated 4 out of 5 by TCBean Great fit andcut - Fabric needs to be more breath
I LOVE the fit and cut of this jacket. The fabric weight, look and feel are superb. Great quality for the price. Don't change anything about the cut or design, but seriously LL Bean - this jacket needs to be more breathable. Not sure why, because it seems to be uncoated, but this jacket doesn't breath well at all. Not as bad as the other posters said, but it does limit the jacket's usefulness in warm weather. That said, it makes the jacket that much warmer in cold weather, so for me it's a wash! Great jacket for the price - period.

Rated 1 out of 5 by CraigB703 Wrong fabric, doesn't breath
Every year when I return to South Dakota for opening of pheasant, I buy my young cousin some hunting gear. This year I decided to get him a hunting jacket. From the ics it looked like a good design. The problem with this coat is it the fabric. It doesn't breath. It is coated with some kind of plastic which would keep you dry as a rain coat but is otherwise terrible for the purpose. you get too hot in this coat, I exchanged it for the Chukar which is far superior.
Recommend Bean keep the pattern but use a fabric like the Chukar Jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by PSica Excellent coat
It is an excellent coat, lightweight and warm for the mid season. I'm not a hunter but I like the design and I use the jacket for workdays. With another pocket inside it would be perfect.

The product is cluttered with pockets, shaps, pouches and items that weren't visible in the small picture. I will be returning the item. I want a plain field jacket like I purchased from you guys before. Too bad I could just refer to the earlier purchase and say duplicate it. I left the jacket in a rental car and someone else is enjoying it now.

Rated 1 out of 5 by papano very big problem
wore this coat pheasant hunting in IA in 30 degree temps wearing nothing more than a t-shirt underneath with the coat unbuttoned. each time, within minutes, i was completely soaked with sweat. the coat has zero breathability. i recommend the cotton hunter's field coat. this one is a complete failure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by moosaki Good small gamejacket.
I bought this last year to pair up with a pair of loden green briar pants with tic cuffs. It is an alternative to my upland khaki/orange set. I use it for small game hunting when I am alone in the woods looking for grouse, squirrels or rabbits and do not need orange visability, as game animals do not shoot back. I have worn it on upland hunts with an orange vest and hat. It is soft, protective, water proof and layers up well. It also looks sharp on.
