I bought the blue critter shark lunchbox for my son 2 years ago. It's the perfect size for his lunch with room to spare. Nice sturdy zippers and mesh pocket for the ice pack. My only disappointment is when I put the LLBean critter thermos in there a few times, the liner ripped. Also, the outside is stained on the edge and I can't seem to get the stain out! Despite this, I plan to continue to have my son use the lunchbox throughout his elementary school years because the damage is minor. I love how it matches his critter backpack and fits inside nicely. Overall, it's not perfect, but it's pretty close... So I'm on here buying another one for my second son! :)

I'm in love with the critter backpack! I purchased this backpack (the blue shark with monogram) for our oldest son as he entered first grade and he's just finishing up second grade now. It's amazing! It looks brand new.. and let me tell you he comes off the bus and throws it on the lawn to go play with his friends. He puts it on his belly and plays sumo wresting with it! It doesn't matter though, this backpack remains clean looking and perfect! (And shhhh I've never even washed it!!) It has plenty of room and plenty of pockets, it will be the perfect size for the rest of elementary school. I'm buying another one for our second son right now!! :)

I bought this backpack back in 2010 for my oldest child to start kindergarten. I just purchased another of this backpack (different color) for the 2nd child to start kindergarten next year. The size looks a little big on a kindergartener but it is not overpowering. It is better than having a tiny backpack that projects cannot fit into. It's the perfect size for my 2nd grader. The quality is amazing. It is easy to put easily accessible items in the many zipper compartments. The main compartment is plenty big enough for many library books, homework, gym shoes, lunch etc. Every detail has been thought of with this pack. I have had mom's tell me that they cannot believe we *STILL* have the same backpack from 2010 and it looks like it is still brand new. Most of them are on backpack #2 or 3. It's better to pay for quality. I know that my children will be able to use this backpack until the beginning of middle school, so honestly I spent less on a backpack for their elementary school years than others will pay investing in multiple packs. When middle school starts, we will size up to another LL Bean backpack.

Bought this for my son when he outgrew his "mini" Keen backpack, and a grown up one we had lying around kept falling off his shoulders. Needed something that would stay on but be big enough for snowpants and snow boots. This did the trick! It's big enough so I hope he can use it until middle school or later (I imagine when he thinks it's uncool to have a shark on his pack). He LOVES it. He can walk a half mile home from school without it falling off at all.
Totally recommend this. A perfect size and fit, well made so far, great pockets, etc.

I bought this pack for my son when he entered 1st grade. We loved it so much that when our 1st grandson entered Kindergarten we bought him one... then the 2nd started kindergarten and we got him one. The last grandson starts in 2 years and he will also get one.
The pack is excellent quality, has many pockets for lots of little items. The main pocket has lots of room and it is easy to get books and papers in and out of without bending or tearing them up. My son is now in 5th grade and the pack still looks great, all the zippers/pulls, seams, everything is in great shape. I've washed it a couple times over the years and hung on line to dry and the colors are still bright. I promised when he started middle school he could get a new backpack but now I'm wishing I hadn't. This pack is large enough for middle school and still in such great condition that he could use it for many more years.

We got this backpack for my son when he was in K or 1st grade. He just turned 13 and still uses it in middle school - the owl is still cool! (and he kept his preschool backpack for years as a dance bag until I got him a new one this year!) LLBean packs last and last!

I was looking for a smaller, durable, "monogrammable" backpack that my 3-year-old son could use for preschool (and hopefully for a few years after that). The Critter Backpack fits the bill! We have only had it for a couple of weeks, but it feels VERY durable. My son loves the shark that makes it easy to find his backpack among the other kids' backpacks. His teachers love that the monogram helps them know which backpack is theirs. (Btw, monograms are much safer than full names for children's backpacks in terms of kidnapping potential - look it up.) We love the number of pockets and different compartments. Once again, L.L.Bean does not disappoint!
