I have owned this pack for over 10 years. As an avid day hiker, camper, and active full time fireman, I use this pack daily to carry anything that I could get to fit in it from large rocks to my 15lb dogs. Ive used it as a carry-on overnight bag for planes and a change of clothes on overnight hikes. I'm looking to replace it because all the heavy duty things i have transported through the years has caused the waterproof lining to deteriorate. One of the best features is the "shoe/boot" compartment on bottom. It keeps my dirty shoes away from my clean clothes. I am buying the same bag for replacement. just wish they still had it in hunter green

Needed a backpack to use as a carryon for plane trips. This backpack serves the purpose very well. With multiple zippered sections I am able to divide my carryon items into certain categories (electronics, reading material, clothing, etc.)that make it easier to access when needed. The straps are very comfortable and don't irritate the shoulders.

Bought this to replace the same backpack. After a year and a half, one of the shoulder straps on the old backpack finally tore loose (the one that the boy uses to carry the backpack around all the time). That seemed a pretty reasonable time for the old backpack to last, given that it was loaded to the brim with heavy textbooks.

So far, I am really enjoying this pack. Has good strength and seems to hold up well. I wanted something to use for my stuff that I bring to work. Has lots of room, and I like the feature of the hip strap. Keeps my back straight as I have to hike about 0.7 mile to get to my work place. Had to wait about 5 months to get the color I wanted but it was worth the wait. LL Bean always has quality products, and this is no exception.

This is the 3rd pack like this I have got for my kids.
They are tough (the elastic cord on the back does not last as long as the pack) Standing up to full payload of books and shoes for at least 4 years....

This backpack arrived just in time for my 16 yr old son to take on extended school trip. He packed 3 large textbooks, laptop (and other accessories for that), headphones, sweatshirt and other essentials in it and still had room for soda and snacks! It survived the abuse of a 16 hr bus ride with a group of high school students and as a carry on (fitting under the seat) for the flight home. Looks great even now. Straps are sturdy. They held up well with this type of load and being used in the manner of most teens- slung over one shoulder with one strap bearing the brunt of the weight. If this one doesn't last through his college years, you can bet he will want another just like it.

This backpack is spacious enough for my teenager. We got the dark blue with black trim. I liked that it has a separate compartment for shoes. Very handy cell phone holder in the strap. It is everything you would expect from known quality LL Bean backpack! A little pricy but I had a girt certificate so it wasn't so much out of pocket.

I purchased a similar bag >6 years ago for my wife. Purchased another one for my 9 yr old son. Both of them love it! Biggest assets are the number of compartments for large binders as well as notebooks. My favorite is the additional "sports" compartment at the bottom for shoes, etc. The newer version has a pocket for a music player and one on the shoulder strap. The only "negative" part is that you can lose the waist strap buckle - which can come off over time.
I wish LLB would make this bag (a) with a padded laptop compartment so that I can get one for myself and (b) with a sternum strap. They could call it Turbo Transit III.
