Rated 5 out of 5 by LivetoRun Awesome Backpack
My son has had this backpack for 3 years. One of the straps is finally ready to come off, but I have zero complaints. My son has carried over 50 lbs of books and any number of binders in this backpack since he got it. The bottom compartment for "clothes" holds more textbooks. He does not have a locker so his whole school life is in this backpack. He will tell you he has never not been able to get one more thing in it as it is an endless pit of acceptance. I agree when I look at it. There is simply is NO other backpack that can meet and withstand my son's needs...let alone meet and exceed his needs for the last 3 years. Historically, he would go through 2-3 heavy duty backpacks a year, not 1 backpack in 3 years. Thanks Mom for getting it for him!! Although I have heard of people returning their LL Bean backpacks when they break, I will gladly be paying for another one because their lifetime guarantee is if you are "not satisfied." I cannot even begin to utter those words. This backpack has been a Godsend and has performed admirably under extreme duress. We will be having a memorial service for it when its replacement comes.

My son loves this backpack, and it is surviving going back and forth between U.S. and U.K.

This backpack has been absolutely perfect for my 11 year old boy. We are half way through the school year and it looks like brand new. I fully expect he'll get several more years use out of this backpack, which is what I intended when I decided to spend so much. Pricey but worth every cent!

my son used his as a schoolbag for 5 months but it ripped at the seam on top. He doesn't carry textbooks, only a binder and notepads. I am exchanging it so I hope it was a fluke and the next one lives up to LLBean standards.

Once I received the bag, I was very happy with size of the bag. The number of compartments was great. The bottom part of the bag that holds the shoes is amazing. It is big enough to hold my size 14 shoes. I use the bike to ride to work and It has worked wonders. It is spacious enough to keep a change of clothes, lunch, and my shoes as well as various other thinks such as my hand warmers, walllet, towel and sketch pad I always carry with me. It fits all of this comfortably and I still have space to add more if need be. The bag is very reflective, while on the bike it increases my visibility tremendously. I have rode through snow, sleet and rain and all of my contents on the inside have remained dry, even after an hour ride.

Rated 5 out of 5 by GIndy Sturdy pack
My son carries 35 lbs+ books in his pack every day, throughout the (high school) day. We don't expect regular packs to hold up. This one has been fine, although within the first week, all of the knobs that hold the outside cord fell off. With a full load, you have to be careful about zipper end placement. If the zippers meet at a corner, they open while being carried and things start to fall out.
Also, the description says room to spare, and that is definitely not the case. My son's lunch is squished every day, and the seams on the pack are strained. Halfway through the school year, I am watching a few corner seams for possible fraying, as they are stretched and exposed.
We are hoping it will last for two years, though I am anticipating needing a new pack each year.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Motheroftwoteens Great size, but lacks a water bottle holder
The size of this backpack is great for traveling. It fits under the airplane seat and the two large compartments hold papers, travel stuff, plus the smaller front pocket holds smaller items. The straps are well padded and it appears to be sturdy. It is not as comfortable as the Super Deluxe Plus backpack, but it is still well padded.
The bottom pocket doesn't work well for my use -- sweaters or extra clothes can be stuffed in there, but it is not space efficient. However, if used as a shoe/gym clothes holder it might be useful. The main drawback is that it does not have a water bottle holder. I did not think that would be a big deal, but it has been. Water bottles can leak onto the electronics in the pocket. Also, as others have said, the front netting is fragile and not very useful.

Agree with other female customers - need more color choices. A teal or bright blue! Also, why no water bottle holder? HS students carry so much...help with holding a bottle. Please consider acting on these concerns. Only buy Llbean packs over the years. Love the side handle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by CandSMom Love this bag! More Colors PLEASE!
I am a huge LL Bean fan! Especially when it comes to backpacks. The quality and choices are unsurpassed. This bag is the roomiest bag I could find for my 12 year old son, who needed something big enough to carry all his binders for school. I love the storage at the bottom, too! The only complaint I have, is that the colors are all "boy colors". My 15 year old daughter sure could benefit from this bag, but she won't purchase it because she only likes teal!
