Rated 5 out of 5 by Matliff Excellent pack
I have owned this pack for over 10 years. As an avid day hiker, camper, and active full time fireman, I use this pack daily to carry anything that I could get to fit in it from large rocks to my 15lb dogs. Ive used it as a carry-on overnight bag for planes and a change of clothes on overnight hikes. I'm looking to replace it because all the heavy duty things i have transported through the years has caused the waterproof lining to deteriorate. One of the best features is the "shoe/boot" compartment on bottom. It keeps my dirty shoes away from my clean clothes. I am buying the same bag for replacement. just wish they still had it in hunter green

Rated 5 out of 5 by ThreeBsmom Excellent backpack!
I am a little surprised by some of the reviews I've read regarding this backpack. I purchased two of these backpacks, one blue and one red for alternating days for my honor student. I purchased these backpacks for my son when he entered 6th grade and threw them away when he graduated from high school in the International Baccalaureate program. My son went to a International Charter school for middle school and both this program and the IB program required the use of multiple notebooks, lab books, class books and various supplies. One night, we actually weighed my son's backpack after I attempted to pick it up...one of them was 27 lbs and the other one was 23lbs. These backpacks were my son's dearest friends. He couldn't use his locker because it was so far from class so he had to have every book every class every day. He utilized every compartment in these backpacks and he frequently threw his backpack around. In fact, he typically would shrug it off and let it drop to the ground. The back pack never really broke on us. His zippers never really broke, only the rubber covering on the zippers came off but the zippers themselves were still excellent. With this kind of load, and the kind of painful wear and tear my son inflicted on the backpack, I'm surprised it lasted this long. Even with the fabric worn thin by the time he was in 12th grade, it still held his supplies and books most excellently. I never purchased another backpack for him since 6th grade! Now my younger son is in high school and has been through several back packs already., That's it. I'm getting him two of these!

Rated 2 out of 5 by ZYXW MASSIVE, but cannot support its weight
This pack is HUGE. When packed fully, I extends about two feet behind you! It also drags you down....my child has to carry about forty pounds of books and the like to school and her back hurt every day because of it. Not very stylish, but very well made with good material. It would be perfect if it was built to withstand its weight. Finally had to stop using it when, as my daughter was walking to the bus, the biggest pocket's zipper opened and all of her books fell out. The zipper goes all the way down and so if its even a little open, when you walk it jiggles it even more and then the entire thing opens and all the books fall out. Stinks because this is really nice quality and pretty durable so I was hoping she would use it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by tnsmombs On our 3rd one in 6 years
My daughter loves the backpack. It holds a lot. Unfortunately it doesn't hold up as long as I would like it to. I'm sending back our 2nd Turbo pack. The 1st one she got in 7th grade and lasted until she was a sophomore. There were signs of fraying after the 2nd year but kept it until we had to send it back. The second one was received 8/2012 and failed at the beginning of the 2014 school year. Just took me a while to send it back. Found her a replacement in the mean time at a local store. LL Bean has been great about replacing them, I just wish they would last longer. I was hoping she could use it well into college. Hopefully, we'll have better luck with this one. Customer serviced has been great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by travelingagainsoon This can carry a lot
We recently purchased this pack for my husband to take on work travel. He likes to avoid checking in his luggage and he counts this as his "personal item" in addition to his carry on. The zipper compartment on the bottom fits his size 13 shoes plus several socks (shoved in shoes) and in voids. There is a pocket to put his laptop, some files, coat, and other neccessities.
We took this to the grocery store the other day when we were snowed in and had to walk. I couldn't believe that we fit the entire cart worth of groceries in the back of it and hanging off the bungee. We fit 4 boxes of cereal, 1 box of oatmeal, and a variety of other items. The bungee in particular - we were able to attach a 6-pack of toilet paper on it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ElJeffe Going on 6 years - I take it everywhere!
I've had one of the original models for approximately 6 years and I can honestly say - It is something I take on each and every single trip and still looks great after all this time. It handles whatever I put in it, is comfortable and tough as nails. I wish the original had the bungy cords in front, but that was my choice. In fact, I now only bring this backpack for a 7 day vacation in the sun. You won't be disappointed purchasing this piece of equipment !

Rated 2 out of 5 by Aristarchus Needs some re-design!
On the whole, the Turbo Transit is a decent backpack. However, after six months of use, I found that the fabric used for the inside bottom of the laptop-compartment is quite thin. It is now torn due to chafing by the laptop. It would be much better if the fabric used for the inside bottom of the compartments were the same ballistic-nylon as the outside bottom. If you truly live off your backpack & are planning to carry a 15-inch laptop and heavy books in it, I would NOT recommend this pack.

Rated 4 out of 5 by r699r Sturdy, high-capacity bag
I bought this because I wanted something with high capacity and I was attracted to the separate compartment on bottom for workout gear, etc. It is very commodious and useful.
Lots of pockets and zipped compartments. Room for pens, etc.
Some things to improve:
Chest strap would be more useful than the waist strap for me.
Straps to cinch the load down when the bag is less than full would be helpful.
The handle on the side: do others actually use it? I never pick up a backpack from the side but use the top loop to pick up the bag from the ground.
The ropes on the outside of the of the pack: What is the purpose? For me, they just get tangled and caught on locker doors, etc.

Rated 5 out of 5 Another hearty backpack from Bean.
I've always bought LLBean backpacks for my three boys. Actually, never needed to buy for my third, thank goodness for well made hand-me-downs. But this review is for this backpack. I can't remember exactly when he started using it, but he's a junior in HS and I believe he got it in middle school. Since being in HS, he's been carrying 18-20 lbs of books on his back and the bag is now just giving out. I didn't expect it to last forever but happy to say it lasted this long. I'm sure it's not expected to carry that weight and remember, he's a boy. I just ordered a different one because he didn't utilize the bottom compartment (that would've been perfect for sneakers and such) and that just took space away from the book area. With the replacement, he has loads of room in the main compartment. Thanks LL Bean for making such quality back packs.

I bought one of the red backpacks and it is good going on the second year. The askbark backpack on the other hand, the zipper broke within 2 weeks, took it to a shoe store to get fixed, shortly after, the other side broke. The red one is still good but need another one so son can alternate packs, but have not bought one yet.
