Unfortunately this bag was not large enough for our new laptop, 17.3 " screen, so we had to return it. Disappointed only because we were unable to use what looked to be a nice sturdy well organized bag.

I don't know why L.L. Bean is designing touriists' bags from next to next. They don't need to if they add smaller size bags to regular L.L. Bean messenger bags because I like the design and colors of those bags. I am not satisfied with any of the new travel messenger bags. I am looking for something more practical and simple.

I was hesitant to spend this much on a computer bag, but decided to go for it, and I'm happy I did. I use it daily for work, and am very impressed so far. I have a 17" laptop and it fits fine (not in the laptops sleeve section though). Has lots of pockets and storage and is built to last. I ordered black and it said black on the packaging, but to me it looks a little more like a dark blue. Still love it, looks great.

Great bag for college student w/ heavy books & lap top. Lap top section well padded & protected against carriers body. Ballistic material extremely sturdy, but... stitching @ curve of lap top zipper separated & unravelled. Otherwise, excellent product! Long time LLB customer appreciates LLB quality & return-exchange policy.

I purchased this bag for my husband to replace one that had worn out after 5 years of everyday use. This bag is also nice, though it doesn't have the same compartments. He recently took it with him on a business trip and found he could fit his computer, travel documents and lecture notes inside. It appears to be well made with a durable shoulder strap, and will probably last as long as his previous one. Only con is that this bag is a little pricey compared to his previous one, but the cost of everything has gone up. All in all...Good buy!

This bag has been nothing but great. I'm a college student and a musician. I can fit plenty of stuff in it, I bike with it, and so far no signs of tearing or anything. Looks very professional when having to use it in that sort of setting. I've even put some small instruments in it (like tambourines, etc.) and it works just fine.
In fact, I've spilled some of my lunch in it a couple of times, once there was broth sitting it for hours because I hadn't noticed!! The bag didn't absorb it! I emptied it, and cleaned the inside with some dish soap and water, and good as new! The laptop sleeve is pretty slick.

I was purchasing to use as a modified briefcase to carry to/from work. It is far bigger than it appears on line. The handle is too small and the shoulder strap should be removable (and is not). It appears well made and lots of nice features. It is too big so I sent it back.

Bought this as a Ballistic Touring Set with XL, M and messenger bag. I am impressed with the construction and the functionality of the set. However, the outer organization portion on the luggage with the pen/pencil holder should zip on the top rather than the side, accessibility was an issue. The messenger bag had a slot to slide onto the luggage (very handy). It was also great to be able to easily access our laptop in the rear of the bag without opening the entire bag. Also looked at higher-end Hard-Samsonite luggage sets and decided the construction was superior on this set, particularly the zippers and wheels. The Samsonite sale prices were tempting though.

This bag replaced a standard soft sided briefcase that was aging and had too many little pockets and not enough space. The construction and materials are top notch. I wish the shoulder strap was detachable as it was on my old briefcase. My take home work and iPad fits well in this size bag; I most likely could have gone with a smaller bag.

I bought it for a trip to Ireland later this summer, so I have not used it yet. However, I can confirm that the construction and room inside is everything I expected. Like others, I was hesitant to spend $99, but as always, the quality of Bean's merchandise makes it worth the price.
