Just what I was looking for. A vest without all the puffiness.

This is a well-made warm vest. I wanted it for myself, and being a five foot female, it was absurd, especially around the armholes which are designed for a man. Bean should make this for women, and it could be in the regular Winter outerwear catalog, not only Hunting and Fishing, where many people may not see it. My husband liked it too, so he kept it and I get to see it. He has a 32 inch waist, and always wears a medium, but the small fit well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by pharmacyguy dad loves it
Bought this for my dad for Christmas, and he is hard to buy for as he has just about everything you could possibly imagine. As he ages I know that staying warm is a priority for him and already owning one of these myself I thought it would be a welcome addition to his wardrobe. He absolutely loved it, and it fit to perfection. It was quite awesome having both of us wearing them together over the holidays!!! I have yet to be disappointed by a product from Bean and I have purchased many!!! This vest is very well made and will last a long long time and the warmth factor is just amazing. I wear it under my wool windstopper shirt jac and it cranks up the warmness to amazing levels. It was 22 with a 15 to 20 mph wind while walking our daughter's new puppy and with these 2 pieces I was toasty warm!!! Thanks again for such great and innovative products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by AlexaQ Best Vest Ever!
I'm a fan of vests when it's cold - over a shirt in the fall and under a coat in winter. They keep you warm and toasty without restricting movement - great for being active outdoors - your arms are free and you don't overheat. I've got to say this is the best vest I ever had. The fleece that lines it is thick and substantial, and cushiony against the torso like real sheep's fleece. I almost didn't buy it because I only wear wool and cotton, but this fleece feels like natural wool and has the same warmth. It does not have a funny smell or feel greasy like so many faux fleece products. The shell is 100% woven wool, a hefty strong wool that keeps out the wind. It has an interior zip pocket and two deep lined exterior hand warmer pockets. I can put my keys in the exterior pocket when I go running and nothing slips out.
The style is Classic LL Bean - the best of the good old days. I have a Bean overcoat in my closet for the past 30 years and it is still going strong. (That coat has a real shearling lining - I wish LL Bean would bring that design back!) This vest is made of the same sturdy workmanship and quality materials as my overcoat. Some of the newer Bean products don't live up to their old standards, but this vest is the real thing.
I bought two vests for myself in different colors (both plaid) and the red and green hues are deeper and more tasteful (less garish) than what I saw on my computer monitor - I think they look better in person than in the photo. I've gotten scads of compliments on the red plaid vest.
As for sizing, I got a Small. I am a woman who weighs 120 at 5'5" and have a petite frame. For me, there is extra room in the chest and armholes but I am OK with this as it allows me to wear lots of layers. For a larger woman or a small man I think it would fit "just right." I got one for my Dad, a Large Tall and it hugs his chest when he wears a T shirt and sweater under it. He's 6'2"and 190 pounds. He practically lives in it, went crazy like a kid at Christmas when he tried it on!
Lastly, I put my vest through the washer and dryer and it did not pill, fade or shrink. This is the final amazing thing about this vest - washable! Wow. I'm in love! ;-))
PS - LLBean: Please make an overcoat in this style using these materials (or real shearling) - we would buy several. Your other red plaid wool overcoats do not have linings, and this fleece is the warmest lining short of shearling that I have ever seen.

Rated 3 out of 5 by freeinyyc not a happy red
I bought 3 of these for all the "boys" in my family for Xmas...thinking that the bright red and black will recall a common heritage in the deep woods of Canada. The joke is considerably adumbrated by the red which is not scarlet but more of a wine/dark red mixture. a citified red for gentlemen. not reminiscent at all of the red that allows trees and hearts to fall at a man's feet. oh well. too late to look for something else. perhaps computer screens make all these llbean colours brighter?

Rated 4 out of 5 by Newtobean101 Very nice vest, but stiff collar
I have a lot of fleece vests, but was looking for something a little warmer, but not bulky. This vest delivers and gives best of both worlds. Fleece lined, wool vest without the wool itch.
Other reviews mention the stiff collar and they are right. Not a deal breaker, but a softer collar would make this a 5.
Fit is perfect for me. I went with the medium even though I am 6' 2" and 200 lb. I hate bulk and this fits me nicely with room for a couple of thermo layers underneath the vest.
Some reviews complain of the large arm openings. I would disagree with that, they are fine for me.
I will have this on in the north woods of Wisconsin for bowhunting. Can't wait.

Got this Vest for the winter months. It has a good feel & construction. I also like the fact that this is an American Company. That stands behind it's work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Stan3 Fleece-Lined Wool Vest
I'm very satisfied with this vest. I was looking for a winter weight vest that had a more stylish look. I bought the gray color and it goes very well with lots of wardrobe options. I would have liked a larger flip-up collar, but I could not find one other than hunting vests, but I did not want the camouflage color scheme of those vests. I like the pocket styling of this vest as well as the fleece lining.

Rated 5 out of 5 by JonyT Perfect for Fall/Winter
Bought this in the fall, and it has served me very well ever since. Very happy with the build. The outer is durable, made to last, and the lining is very warm and soft. If it was lost/stolen, I would most certainly replace it with another.
