I just received my vest and am very pleased with the looks, fit, and the warmth. I don't suppose the people at L.L. Bean planned it this way, but I was very happy to find that the zippers on the vest matched the interior zippers on my Barbour raincoat so I can use it as a zip-in lining also. You have to turn the vest inside-out so that the zippers line up, but it fits very well.

Love the vest. Only thing I don't like is the collar is too small, which seems to be the fashion right now. Because of this, the front area that flaps down tends to flip up which personally irritates me. Right now I am 'training' it by constantly hard folding it to get the material to have a fold line. But it is very warm, looks great and big roomy pockets. Basically it's very spiffy. Wife would love to see a woman's version.

Just gave this to my brother in the red plaid. It was a huge success? well-made and handsome, and the one present ordered online that surpassed my expectations rather than disappointed me. (Disappointments not from L.L. Bean) My sister and I were drooling over it, though! Please make one for women that looks exactly like this but is nipped in at the waist. Fashionable and practical dressers would love it! (We are not frumpy at all.) Please don't "feminize" it except for the waist. It is beautiful and perfect as it is! Really nice good-quality fabric and construction and a great hidden breast pocket. We all love it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by woods1 Fleece-lined wool vest
This is a warm, practical vest. It layers well over a sweater (or fleece) since armholes were designed to provide motion and are large enough. Zipper works fine, and the fleece is quite warm. The rear draft flap is a fine idea since the added length helps stop cold air and wind.
Product development: this would make a fine coat, add sleeves with same wool fabric, but line the sleeves in taffeta-nylon or polyester and use l00 gram Thinsulate for insulation. Even add to length of garment to make it a cold weather coat, It would make a warm and practical wool coat if so designed.

I have the plaid vest and it is my favorite .The vest fits me perfectly, the quality of material and construction is outstanding. I am enjoying the warmth and breathability of wool which keeps warm in rainy wet conditions unlike down . the Berber fleece provides the perfect balance of weight and comfort.
Well done yet again.

Rated 3 out of 5 by GreggInSeattle Why did they sew the pockets closed?
The vest itself is very nice: warm with the good quality materials and construction that I expect from L. L. Bean. But for some inexplicable reason, the outside pockets were sewn shut. My efforts to make the pockets useable have... well, lets just say the vest is no longer in a condition to return for a refund. Unless you are a tailor, expect to pay one to make the vest wearable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by IWool This vest is perfect
I bought this vest to layer under my new LL Bean "Maine Guide Wool Parka". Not only does it provide an excellent layer of warmth under the parka it's great when worn all alone. The shearling style fleece lining, in my opinion, is a far superior choice for additional insulation over typical fleece or Thinsulite. I wanted the vest in charcoal, but that color is not available for a couple of months although when that color is available I am seriously considering ordering a second vest in that color.

Rated 4 out of 5 by 2orchardappleman Just about what I anticipated
When I received the vest, the side slit pockets were sewn
to prevent thrusting my hands into. A little bit of careful stich
cutting opened the pockets, but the hassle of having to do that
was not appreciated.
Outside of that, apple tree pruning will be easier with a little more comortable with "toasty" chest covering and better freedom of movement with my arms.

The construction and materials are top of the line no complaints about the vest at all except that is was to small. Reviews and sales person on the phone said the vest was cut larger. Not ! It would seem to make sense that an outer garment would be the next larger. You sell 2xl sweaters why not sell 3xl vest and coats to wear over the sweaters. Why not offer custom orders? I would willing pay more to get the best that money can buy, LL Bean, if it would only fit.
