Came back to order another merino wool sweatshirt. Sadly, they are out of my size! When L.L. Bean reorders this fall, hopefully the size/style and shape does not change. I also appreciate the basic colors and quality. Thank you for carrying something from a that is good quality that fits under the hunting line. Often times things like this are reserved only for the men department.
If you are wondering about this size, it is true to size. I am a tall woman of average size, and the length and sleeves are perfect. Maybe because it is made from quality merino wool that there are no corners being cut in the size? So regular and tall people would be happy with this, petite...not so much.
This is worth every penny. It wears wonderfully and washes beautifully. Please restock ASAP. This sweatshirt is so perfect I want to stock up before it is gone!

This is a warm, cozy sweatshirt, but it has three major flaws: It is too long, it lacks a double zipper, and it's somewhat on the skinny side. If I had kept it, wearing it would mean either pulling it up and wearing it bunched around my waist, or extending it fully and stretching the waist because of the lack of a double zipper. The fabric used to make it so long would have been better used in making this piece wider. I would have appreciated a larger, more usable hood as well.

One rarely comes across merino wool garments in such a practical item. Most Americans think wool is scratchy, except for hard to care for cashmere. Having lived throughout a winter in England, I've learned to love the comfort and easy care of merino wool.

Fabric is soft and warm. Not itchy. Form fitting so if you want it to be looser, order up a size. Does cover your "bottom" area which is nice when it's cold. Have worn it for morning walks under a wind breaker.
Will be using it for sailing in the San Francisco Bay Area.

I'm a stay at home mom of a 16 month old, and this sweatshirt is absolutely perfect for me. It's so comfortable, goes with everything, is casual but not frumpy, and I wish it came in more colors!! I would easily buy this again and would definitely recommend it for anyone else.

This hoodie is fashioned in the classic sweatshirt hoodie style with updated features. The drawstring is gone from the hood replaced with a slimmer fitting, stretch binding. The fabric is so soft, knit Merino wool, not one bit itchy. The fit is feminine, not baggy not tight.

I ordered this on a whim--was looking for something I could shoot trap in. I haven't gone shooting in this sweatshirt yet, but I could.
Ordered a L--I'm 5'9" and 170; chesty. I could have ordered an XL for the bustline, probably, but that's just because I like clothes on the looser side. The Large will layer nicely under another coat or vest.
It's long enough--the sleeves are long but not TOO long on me. The pockets are smallish (so not great for holding ammo), and there's an inner pocket, secured with velcro, that I don't exactly understand yet. The hood is gathered around the face, so side vision is not impaired. The zipper comes way up under your chin, so it will seal out draughts. There are no annoying adjustable cords to lose.
Haven't washed it yet. But I do like it. And I love the color.

Folks please lobby /petition/beg L.L. Bean to continue producing this awesome garment in men's and woman's sizes. I want one so bad I just may have to order a women's x large as it is not presently available men's sizes. The comfort factor of wool is unsurpassed especially at high altitude. Bonus is they never smell . Merino wool is so soft and comfortable as well .

In recent years, I've become very fond of wool knit cardigans made by another New England clothing company, but the style of theirs is slim fitting, making a t-shirt the only appropriate garment to wear underneath. I decided to order this sweatshirt because it looked roomier than my cardigans. I'm completely delighted with this jacket! It immediately became my "comfort" piece of clothing, with its smooth exterior and soft, fuzzy interior. My normal size fits perfectly, even with a flannel shirt underneath, and the Velcro interior pockets take care of the typical "floppy pocket" flaw of most sweatshirts. I bought this jacket in black, and I ordered the men's version in loden for my husband's Christmas present. (Shhh.) If this jacket were offered in a nice warm brown or bittersweet color, I would order another, and those colors would be appropriate for both men and women, so the same fabric could be used for the two models. Just a friendly hint! Merino wool is a magical fabric, and I'm delighted to see Bean using it in smooth knit garments.

Rated 5 out of 5 by shepherdlover glad i bought it.
This is the sweatshirt of all sweatshirts. I thought it a little pricey when I ordered it but so glad I did. It is warm without bulk, the inside is so soft and don't worry about itch with the wool you practically forget it is wool. As a lover of hoodies I am constantly reaching for this one. The sizing is good and the sleeves are plenty long without being too long. I am thinking of ordering a green one also.
