This was our 3rd bike carrier. The "hanging" type carrier allowed the bike to scratch each other and were hard for my wife to hang her bike up. This Thule model allows the wheels to sit in holders and is much easier to load and it keeps the bikes from banging into each other. The carrier folds up when not in use. And comes with 3 locks. One for where the unit is attached to the receiver hitch and the other 2 for the bikes. No complaints. This model does hold only 2 bikes which is all we needed. Thule has models designed for holding more than 2.

assembly was really easy, following the directions supplied. delivery was very quick. I had to use some spray silicone to help slide the rack mount into the hitch and the fit is pretty tight. had to use a rubber mallet to assist in removing the mount from the hitch, but it really is not that big a deal. haven't used the mount to transport bikes as of yet, but the carrier seems very well constructed

I first purchased the Thule Bike Rack that attaches at the handle bars. However my bike was too heavy for me to lift it up high enough to attach it at the handle bars I returned that rack to LL Bean and purchased the Thule Double Track Rack. This rack is absolutely GREAT. It is easy to lift the bike up to get the tires into the tracks. You don't need to lift the bike as high as the first rack I purchased. The bar comes down and secures the bike in place. It takes a little practice to make the procedure effortless but so much easier for me than the original one I purchased. Also this rack style does not block my view out the back car window. I highly recommend the double track bike rack. I live very close to a L.L.Bean store so they put the rack together and installed it for me which was a big help.

The rack is constructed very well, easy to assemble. Folds up very easy when not in use. Basically this really all you need. Holds bikes very well, they don't wobble or shake. No complaints other than listed below. If you want an ultra strong 2 or 4 bike rack with 2" receiver only you will spend $439 ... a bit pricy. The tire saddles adjust really easy to accommodate different wheel bases, hold good. It is a good product. One key fits all locks is a good idea.
I hate the 1-1/4" receiver. I have a real American made truck, not some flimsy off shore SUV made from recycled beer cans. The adapter to 2" is OK but not the same. All receivers should be 2" in my opinion.
The ratcheting tire straps could be maybe an inch longer, my 29'er has tall side walls
The locks on the down tube arm are seated in plastic ... If I were to leave bikes on back of truck unattended I would use a steel cable and lock it the trailer hitch.

No problem fitting ladies or mountain bikes. Easy to assemble. A little too many plastic partsand don't care for having to bolt it into the hitch each time that I want to use it ,but overall a convienient rack.

We've had this rack for two years and were reasonably satisfied. It's easy to mount the bikes and except for some swaying in transit, they seem secure. Beware of a false sense of security. Our bikes were stolen from the locked rack last week. Apparently thieves can undo the wheel straps and slip the bikes right off the rack. Needless to say we are pretty disappointed.

The Five Stars that I assigned are predicated on the price. I did some comparison shopping and based on my overall observation of product design, features and material, I think this is an excellent product and is priced well in comparison to similar products. Based on a previous review, I assumed I would have a hard time assembling the carrier and operating some of the components (the tire straps in particular). However, I found it extremely easy to assemble and I found the previously complained of tire attachments to be really simply to use after no more than two to three attempts. The carrier itself shakes a little bit when I encounter bumps (only at the contact point where the carrier is inserted into the vehicle's hitch) but it keeps the bikes in place and the bikes are easily loaded onto the unit. The carrier comes with sufficient locks (two for each bike, and one for the hitch). I read other comments regarding the plastic and rubber material used, I suspect overtime those components will eventually breakdown but again, for the price, I think I'll more than get my money worth before the parts deteriorate.

Easily loaded two bikes. Have other Thule Bike rack, that clips on around rear suv hatch but this rack is more solid and heavier and supports the bikes better. I have no problem using this rack for long trips knowing that the bikes are in solid and well supported.
Also like the way rack folds up out of the way when bikes have been removed. My biking partner has also positively commented on the functionality of this rack. This is not a light weight rack but the peace of mind knowing that our bikes are in solid and well supported is worth it to me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by LLBusyDad Just right for our bikes
This rack accommodates my old French racer and my son's new mountain bike, which are dissimilar in size and shape and did not line up well on other bike racks. The shaft that links the rack to the hitch is long enough to fit my car with good clearance (for the spare tire hanging there). It's easy to fold up and down, and it does not block the tailgate when empty.
The wheel straps look a little flimsy, and it takes a little effort and/or practice to get them to cinch tightly, but they have worked well, so far. The soft rubber padding on the bars that hold the bikes upright may not last, either, but it has prevented any scratches and looks ok after a couple of hundred miles. The keyed locks are a plus. It was easy to assemble and to mount on the car, although the instructions and parts-list are a bit confusing.
