It's a lot more expensive than just putting a piece of reinforced plastic down, but it did seem worth the expense because when it is set up properly the groundcloth is attached to the tent. This means you can set the whole tent up and one person can easily pick it all up together and turn it around or move it if you realize you didn't judge the ground perfectly. A big plus for someone who doesn't sleep well if there is the tiniest bit of slope.

I got the footprint as well as a tent so that moisture was less likely to soak through the floor. It stayed dry. I do not want the tent floor to wear out too soon, but do not expec to givet any report on long term durability after only one use.
