Rated 5 out of 5 by HuntHarder Maine Guide Pants
As a New Hampshire Guide I put them to the test every day. Could not ask for any better quality gear.

I unpacked these long-sought-after pants, put them on, stuck my hands inside the pockets (which could be a liiiitle deeper) and MARVELED at the warm feel to the nice lining inside the POCKETS. I was pleased to see that the lining extended all the way inside the pants to and into the hem. THEN........ Then I purposefully strode out the door to the bus stop in 18 degree weather (with a MILD breeze) and INSTANTLY the lining INSIDE THE PANTS got VERY VERY cold!!!! I couldn't believe it!! Luckily the bus came soon and even when I got to work the lining kept picking up on whatever cold air was in the office. "Suppose I had been hiking thru the woods in these pants?" I said to myself. Boy was I ever disappointed!! LL BEAN -- If you lined these pants with the same lining that is in the POCKETS, I would probably never take them off until Springtime!! AS it is, with the cold-wicking (hypothermia inducing?) lining presently in these pants, I am sending them back to you -- I incurred a 3 figure cost to buy these pants -- only to be Very disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Elway Very warm, but noisy.
Very warm, but noisy as many have stated. You can't hunt though, when you're freezing! I wore these with a fleece base layer, to cut down on the noise in 8 degree weather with no problems.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Anonymous25 Too noisy for hunting
These pants appear to be well constructed and warm; however, the lining is far too noisy for use as hunting pants. The advantage of a silent wool exterior is lost with this design. I am returning this product.
LLBean, please consider a design like the Maine Guide wool parka with the synthetic quilted lining for added warmth and wind protection.

by Jagerknott great pants when its cold
I have used the pants two times since I got them and they kept my legs warm at 23 degrees and wind at 10 MPH. I just wish I could have one size larger 48 W

Great pants, good weight and cut but the satin lining makes a ton of noise when you walk. No good for hunting.

good cold weather pants, perfect for snow wet and cold conditions, to hot for mild weather hunting if very active. like the pants.

Rated 2 out of 5 by McOldskewl Don't Buy These If you Plan to Hunt in Them
When the (4) pocket Maine Guide pant sold out of camouflage, I bought these pants thinking they were the exact same thing but I was wrong. These pants are very loud with the windstopper lining built into them. I am very dissatisfied and returning them tomorrow. Had I realized there was a difference and read the reviews on the (6) pocket vs. (4) pocket pants I would have known.
I would suggest a fleece lining or just offering them without the windstopper lining. The extra pockets always help out in the field except at the cost of a noisy lining. I will give them (2) stars since they are probably warm, but the noise factor is unacceptable for hunting use.

Rated 4 out of 5 by CaTrekker Great pants but noisy
Bought these pants for an elk hunt. They fit just like I wanted and are heavy duty construction, but the windstopper is too noisy................so I returned them. I would definitely recommend them for use where noise is not an issue.

Was looking for warm, quiet, wool for elk hunt. While these might be warm, the nylon lining could be heard @ 50 paces
