I really like this bag as a rolling carry on. The bag overall is pretty light considering it has wheels. The fabric is not as thick as the backpacks or duffles but I was expecting that based on others reviews. As long as it holds up to use, I would find this more appealing because it is lighter. If this bag had come in size large, I would have prefered that size. The XL was too big. The medium will be fine for a few days but will probably be too small as an only bag on a week vacation.

This is the best piece of luggage! I have used this as my one suitcase for many different trips over the past 5 years, and have been impressed with everything about it. This luggage has been checked on airlines, thrown in buses, and it holds-up. I was worried about things getting smashed or broken in it since it is only material with no "structure" in the sides. I have never had anything smashed or broken. I just pack all the breakables in the center, and I have been fine. Even a medium-size mirror I always travel with has never broken. There is a lot of room in this luggage! I rarely fill it up. Just when you think it is full, there is always more room on the sides, in a pocket, etc. It is very lightweight too.

I LOVE this bag. I am able to fit everything for a week away in this bag including phone and netbook accessories in the pockets. I travel with a desktop fan to help me sleep and it fits perfect in the end pocket. I don't use the carry strap on the bag so I use it on a carryon bag I carry a couple times a week. I even just bought an extra strap for my daughter to use on her saxophone case.
It's a big bag but it's nice to be able to pack everything in one place.

Rated 1 out of 5 by eddieburg the most frustrating piece of luggage i own
I've had this bag for about a year. This is the worst piece of luggage I own. I hesitate to use it because I can't take it anywhere without if falling over. The wheels are too far inboard to provide any stability. Any reasonable attempt to take off a curb, or make moderate turns results in the bag laying over on its side. This is even worse if you try to set something like a laptop on top. I would not recommend it to anyone.
Another dissapointment I had was in the monogramming. The only thread color available is black. Put the monogram on a dark colored piece of luggage like this one and you can't see the monogram. Bean should offer at least two colors, black or white, for monogramming.
On the positive side, there is plenty of room for three or four nights stuff and lots of pockets to store things in.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Rhiannon8404 My son loves this bag!
We bought this bag for our 14 yo son so he would have his own piece of luggage. We bought medium so it would be the right size for a carry on. It has gone with him to Disneyland, 2 weeks in NYC and DC, CSI camp and numerous overnight trips.
One negative - the fabric is not as pictured. The picture makes you think you are getting the same type of fabric as the backpacks, but instead it is shiny and much thinner. It's still durable, just not as pictured.

Rated 2 out of 5 by catchandrelease Carryall Rolling Gear Bag
I purchased this product for our upcoming trip to Scotland and Norway.
After receiving I was delighted with the size and configuration of handles, pockets, etc. We have since taken a short overnight trip and I have found that the gear bag is very unstable when rolling. It tracks ok going straight, but tips over when making any sort of turn.
I am sorry to say, I will be unable to use and will return.

Easy to use and great quality, feel like the fabric is a little thin but it does its job. Handle enough clothing and rugged enough to double as a hockey bag.

Rated 2 out of 5 by luggageconniseur photo vs. actual bag
I just received this bag, and I will keep it, I guess, because I don't doubt its usefulness. However, I was disappointed that the "royal" color is more blue-black or navy than the brighter blue of the photo. And the fabric the bag is made of is a sort of shiny nylon weave, which is not at all apparent from the photo. I wonder if the photo is of a previous (nicer) version of this bag. If so, a photo of the actual product being sold should be used instead.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Edamommy Best carryon I have ever purchased
We have several rolling duffles from LL Bean and we use them all regularly. I love that this one will stand on end when being used. I find it infinitely frustrating that the other duffles must be set down horizontally any time you have to produce an airline ticket, make a call or other tasks related to traveling. The kids don't mind but when you have your hands full and are in a rush, it is a pain. So, it appears this bag solves the problem and we look forward to years of use.

we have three of these in our family. we've traveled all over the world with the medium size ... fits everything we need for two weeks. we only travel with carry on bags after our checked luggage was lost on a trip. we use the packing bags (also sold by bean) to make our items cohesive & pack down. we only had trouble one time (in england) with the bag being too big for carry on bin.
only downside for me is if the wheels get rocking the thing flips over as you are dragging it (cobblestones, gravel roads). seriously, i've dragged this thing over every kind of surface. up stairs, too.
it stands up on its own okay - i pack my shoes on that side of the bag so it will fully cooperate.
rick steves says a back pack suitcase has more room - wheels & bottom & handle take up packing space. i can't live without wheels, so i think this is the best bag for the money & design.
