Rated 4 out of 5 by Wintergirl1 Its a winner
I bought this suitcase for a 2 week international trip that took me through 4 international flights, 6 bus rides and 3 hotels. The suitcase performed well. The thing rolls easily, and where weight is critical, it only weighs 8 lbs unloaded. Most suitcases weight 12-14 lbs. It is soft sided, so more like a duffle bag, but packs easily with many options with the different pockets. I was able to pack a ski helmet in it no problem. I bought the teal one (which isn't an option now)--it was great coming off the plane, in a sea of black suitcases, I could easily identify mine. I am very satisfied with the performance!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Kahuna293 Saved my butt!
I have used this suitcase for several years worth of trips with great pleasure, but this September, it saved my butt/back/hip. I was pulling two suitcases up a short set of stairs when I stumbled (after 18 hrs of being up and a new hip one month old) and fell backwards down the stairs and on to my suitcase, which saved me from certain injury. The internal handle extension on one side was bent, so I couldn't extend the handle, but after contacting the hotel's plumber, I was able to use his hack saw to cut out the bend, allowing me to extend the handle so I could manage the suitcase the rest of the trip. Hate to see it go, but I'm replacing it with the same suitcase. That's a good bag!

Rated 3 out of 5 by WAtraveler Needs additional features for carry-on
I am in the process of finding a replacement for this bag. I have used it for many trips, including international, but it is lacking important features that make travel easier.
Pros - lightweight and great capacity; wheels have worked well even over cobblestones and uneven surfaces.
Cons - is too wide when packed and won't wheel down an airplane aisle; lacks interior straps for securing clothing and compacting contents; handle can be wobbly; can be tippy if not packed correctly with shoes and heavy items in the bottom near the wheels; side pockets not usable because of the width problem.
The biggest issue for me is the width problem which could be solved with more structure and adequate interior straps.
This is a classic LLBean bag that is well-priced - just needs improvement.

Rated 3 out of 5 by wolfiesgirl airlines managed to damage bag
I bought the medium size(carryon size) a couple of years ago and liked it. later bought the underseat bag and really love that one! It rolls right under the seat in front of me, no issues.I can fit sandals and my water bottle in the outside zip pocket; easily accessible. I usually put a change of clothes, jammies, sandals, water bottle, personal items and snack in the main compartment -- a book and neck pillow fit in the outside zip pocket. Then I decided to add the large size. All pieces in this collection are nicely designed to fit a LOT of stuff, and they are lightweight and roll smoothly. I use packing cubes and those keep small stuff from floating all over the suitcase. on my second trip with the large, it came off the baggage carousel with a slice in the fabric at both corners, just above the plastic protector. afraid it would rip more, I had to duct tape it and you imagine how that looks. it's not Bean's fault -- I can't imagine WHAT the baggage handlers did to cause a cut on both corners! Maybe hard side luggage is the only way to go. A previous suitcase I had (not Bean brand) had one of the wheels torn off during baggage handling. the airline said they are not responsible for any damage "on the exterior" of the bag!

Rated 5 out of 5 by dischick Love this luggage!
I purchased the medium sized carryall for a 2 week trip to Hawaii. We wanted something that we could hand carry to avoid paying the checked bag fee. This fit perfectly in the overhead bin for Alaska Airlines. I used packing cubes (LLBean and Ikea), so the lack of an inner strap did not bother me. I had mine monogrammed and absolutely love it.
I will be ordering 2 more for my kids during the next promo.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Acemoose Excellent with some minor flaws
This is a well made bag, lightweight, sturdy, a well-balanced easy roller. The retractable handle is smooth, as are the wheels --it holds alot more than it appears it can hold.
One minor "con" - Where is the flat nylon strap that is on so many carry-all roll-ons (at the very top, near the top handle)? The LL Bean carryall could use one, The wheels are so frictionless that on the bus, the carryall does a little cha-cha on its two wheels and I have to grab the handle or the body of the case (unwieldy!!) to keep it from meeting and greeting other passengers. On my other carryalls all I had to do was grab the flat nylon strap and all was held in check.
I hope the nylon material of this carryall is waterproof. If not, there is always Scotchgard.......

Rated 1 out of 5 by OldBeansCustomer Very disappointing; sent it back
I've bought a number of excellent luggage pieces from Beans over the years, and I was surprised and disappointed when I took this one out of the box. I sent it back.
First, I think the dimensions are misleading. The web page gives 273/4"H x 171/4"W x 10"D, 5,634 cu. in. Since those dimensions come to 4787 cu. in., they must be assuming that if stuffed--the bag is completely unstructured on the front side and will push out somewhat--the capacity will increase 18% above the actual dimensions of the unpacked bag. However, like at least one other Beans bag I have, this one is tapered and smaller on the top. (I don't understand why. It makes the bag hold less.) 17 1/4 x 10 is the dimensions of the bottom. The top is 15 x 9. Moreover, the bag, excluding the wheels, is 27". So, if my arithmetic is right, the dimensions of the bag provide about 4151 cu in. before expansion. This is about the capacity of my old Beans medium pullman (I stood them side by side), and this is supposed to be extra large.
Second, this is basically a duffle bag on wheels. The bag does have one separate shoe compartment, accessible from the outside, and a separate thin mesh-faced section under the cover, but other than that, the bag has no tie-downs or dividers at all. For the price, I would expect elastic tie-downs, etc. The inner lining is also not well tacked down, so it does not provide a flat surface for laying clothes down.
All in all, not what I expected from a piece of Beans luggage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by PAPAED54 Vacation Ready
I just came back from an 8 day vacation to Disney with my wife, and grandson. I stuffed this bag with 35 lbs. of clothes, came back with it bulging with 40 lbs. Not that I'm surprised, but the zippers held up very well, plenty of room, lots of nooks & cranny's. I now believe I can do all my traveling with this sturdy luggage, even out of the U.S. which we have been doing. I will now buy the carry-on piece. BUY THIS LUGGAGE!! Don't forget the LIFETIME WARRANTY.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ChickDoc Just right
All of our old suitcases died at the same time, so before a recent overseas trip I bought 4 of these, one in each color, for myself, my husband and our 2 teenage daughters. The size is perfect for a week's worth of clothes, plus space for souvenirs. There are plenty of pockets and the main compartment is very roomy. The wheels worked well on cobblestone streets and other rough terrain. The quality is excellent, and it is good to know that if anything goes wrong, LLBean will replace them with no questions asked. Four thumbs up!

Rated 5 out of 5 by TravelingKid Great size, easy to pack and roll
Love, love this suitcase. Packing carefully, there was enough room for me to pack for a month's travel in Europe and still carry on the plane. We have done this for the last 3 yrs. Now I am asking to please, please make this bag in a spinner w/4 wheels. Getting older and with the extra LLBean travel brief case on top it is getting a little heavy for me to pull in the airports. I would recommend this bag to anyone and would buy it again in a heartbeat .
