This bag would be great if it would stand up. We took it on one trip and it was incredibly aggravating trying to get through secuity, waiting at gates, and waiting for transportation with a wheeled carry on that kept falling down. We adjusted the weight distribution several times and it continued to be a problem. I have several pieces of LLBean Luggage from the Adventure Collection and love them all, this one, no. I returned it after it's one and only trip.

Wow.
I've been using this bag for over three now and have NO complaints. I travel about 30 times a year and check my bag every time, unless rushed. The Bag shows no wear or tear.
The storage capacity typically hold 4 to 5 day worth of clothes for me. I like that ... in a pinch It will fit in the overhead compartments on the airplane.
I would definitely recommend this bag to anyone who travels a lot.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Bozo51 Doesn't Hold Up to Airline Travel
I've purchased three of these bags, one medium and two smaller ones over the past five years and looking back I'm not sure why I bought the last two. They simply don't hold up to airline travel or rollong on concrete sidewalks.
First, the fabric is frayed on the bottom. The wheels are probably too small. Second, the joints, also on the bottom are splitting open.
Its a shame because otherwise the bags are perfect for my use.

The nature of this type of bag is that it does not stand up on its own very well - unless packed full with flat items on the bottom when on end. This is an inconvenience when in an airport, especially if moving thru a long security line. A spinner-type bag with 4 wheels is better for that.
Also, the wheels are a bit close together and the bag tends to wobble if grabbed in a hurry.
Otherwise, though, the bag is very good - well-made and holds a lot. Reasonable price, too. It performs well for what it is, but I need something else. Nothing against the bag.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Hamish Good bag but wobbly
This is a pretty good bag, with plenty of space and pockets for a 3 or 4-day trip. It could be improved, however. First, the wheel base could be a little wider to keep it from starting to wobble when pulled. I have to slow down or stop to get it to settle. Second, I would make the handle arms about 3 or 4 inches longer. I am 6ft tall and the handle is a little low for comfort.

I bought this for my boyfriend who does a lot of traveling. We've been so happy with it. Easy to pack and durable. Plus it fits nicely in the overhead bins.

Rated 4 out of 5 by rs63 Very nice bag
This bag worked vary well for a five day trip. Easy to pack, fit in overhead on large plane but was gate checked on connecter flights on regional jets. Pack heavy or stiff things on bottom and it stands with no problems. Great handle and wheels.

Rated 3 out of 5 by ExtensiveTraveler A Legend Dies
I purchased the large size, and when it came it looked flimsy. So I got out my Sportsman gear bag that I purchased in 1995 and did a side by side comparison. The older bag which was manufactured in Maine,USA, is made of a thicker more durable material. All of the seams and the zippers are double stitched. This bag has traveled the World extensively for 16 years, and has many more years left in it. The new bag is made of a thinner material, with cheaper zippers, and the seams aren't taped and stitched the same as the older bag, and the main compartment zipper and seams are only single stitched, where they need to be double stitched the most. I won't use this bag, for where I go when I travel is usually off the beaten path, and my bags have to be durable, for they get tossed around quite a bit.I gave it to a friend that just simply goes from cab to airport to plane to cab to hotel. This is a shame, because the Sportsman name is a legend that has obviously passed on.

I have a few other items from the Sportsman's collection, so it fits well. I have a garment bag that is about 25 years old from this collection, and is still in good shape. It's a little beat up but the leather trim wears well. I don't use it much anymore because it doesn't have wheels.
This bag is great for short trips, and I like the assortment of pockets. I appreciate the leather trim, which helps the bag stand out from the others. You might not need the handle and wheels; the shoulder strap may work best. I found that it wobbled a bit when pulling it, but it is not as wide as most pullman bags, which makes it a little less stable. Standing it on end doesn't always work, depending on how you have packed it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by LEMCO14 Good bag but don't want roller.
Bag is durable but not usable for me in present form. Would prefer same bag in medium or large size but without the roller wheels and extending handle. Same as LL Bean used to make them, just a flexible and collapsable duffle bag...and much easier to store when empty. Also would be lighter to carry when full, when rolling is not desireable.
