Rated 1 out of 5 by Hello1000 Great bag but the bottom needs to be redesigned
I hope the product designers read this. The bottom has three problems:
1) bag doesn't stand up
2) the bottom can get stuck in an airplane over head. It needs to be about 1/2 to an inch lower.
3) it wears off the cloth very quickly at the bend of the bottom (above the wheels)

Just not what I expected. Very thin.

Rated 3 out of 5 by TravelEnthusiast13 Great uphold, but could use some adjustments
This bag is great... as long as you know how to pack it. I have used it numerous times for weekend trips and traveling internationally and it has held up very nicely. I have this duffel in the sage color and think it looks very nice.
My two concerns are:
1. You must pack bulkier, heavier items on the bottom (when it is standing up) or else it will tip over easily. A larger, sturdier stand (rather than the two little nubs on the bottom) would be a much better idea.
2. I am 5'8" (~173 cm) and have a bit of trouble with the length of the handle. I take long strides and have had it knick me on the back of ankle a few times.
L.L. Bean will hopefully take this into consideration if/when they make a newer model.
Until then, if you are looking for a medium sized duffel that you will be carrying/storing more than pulling this is a good pick. I do not suggest this product to travelers who are/will be using it throughout the city or similar situations.

Rated 4 out of 5 by MissMaryMac Reviews accurate, size a bit too big for carryon
I purchased this bag in October, and have taken it on two week long trips by air. I can confirm that the dimensions are just a little too big to be a convenient carryon. I've flown Southwest and Delta so far. It fits nicely in the overhead compartment of the Boeing 737-800, but not so great in the Boeing 737-700, when it's packed completely full. The bag's wheels tend to catch on the compartment hinges. I think if you don't stuff the side compartment to the brim, and allow it some flexibility, it can be a more reliable carryon. For short flights on smaller planes, the best plan is to gate check.
The good news with its size is that flight attendants are willing to assist, or gate check without any issue.
The size was a gamble I took, and am ok with how it's been working for me. I am less ok with the stability when using the bag as rolling luggage. It frequently tips off to one side, the wheels losing contact with the ground.

Rated 4 out of 5 by LuggageNut Won't fit carry on bag sizers
This would be my favorite bag ever if only it would fit inside the new carry on "bag sizer" test frames at American, Delta and United. I do hope LL Bean will consider resizing this bag to conform to the 22"x14"x9" MAXIMUM exterior dimensions (including wheels and handles.) It would also be great to have one that meets international carry on requirements too which I believe are 20" long.
Great for car trips, however. Or if you are willing to check it.

Seriously sturdy bags. They are finally showing wear: the little piping trim is coming off and some bottom fabric is thin. That's IT after many, many trips. The bags are technically too big for carry-on as they measure too large. But, they do fit most domestic overheads. If the bag is really full, the wheel end will definitely catch on the top of the overhead bin. Internationally, we often had to check these bags. Not on the long haul flights and bigger aircraft though. Just last month we were away for 24 days in England, France and New England with this one bag each. Ladies, to be specific: I had three pairs of shoes, four trousers, six blouses, two dresses, a skirt and top, a rain jacket, umbrella and flashlight, a swimsuit, two clutch handbags and a dress and shawl for a wedding! Plus, all the small bits and cosmetics. This bag is a miracle! All the pockets keep you organized and make going through security smooth. Also, we always use space bag types for really compressing clothes. They don't wrinkle as much as you'd imagine. I hope LLBean always carries this bag and that they keep the quality right where it is!

This bag is like all LL Bean products. Great! I have taken this bag all over the northeast and has suited me very well with all my business and hotel adventures. I just got back from a trip to Florida and this bag easily held all my gear for a 7 day Disney adventure with my family.

Rated 4 out of 5 by JanRG Needs another handle
I've used this bag for 3 years now. It's gone around the world. My only complaint is that it really needs another handle for carrying. I can easily get 50 pounds of clothing in it. Sometimes it is too heavy for me to carry up stairs. If the stairs are wide enough 2 people can carry it using the top handles. Sometimes that just doesn't work. There is a handle on the one end but not the end with the wheels. It could really use a handle on that end also.
This bag has taken a beating and has held up great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Hello1000 Good carry one with lots of pockets
I like the design with the separate back pocket where I put my electronics I have to take out at security and easy zipper pocket in the front for liquids you have to take out. It packs a ton.
Two problems: when it is full the top of the back where the wheels are gets caught in the overhead bins. And it doesn't stand up.

This bag would be great if it would stand up. We took it on one trip and it was incredibly aggravating trying to get through secuity, waiting at gates, and waiting for transportation with a wheeled carry on that kept falling down. We adjusted the weight distribution several times and it continued to be a problem. I have several pieces of LLBean Luggage from the Adventure Collection and love them all, this one, no. I returned it after it's one and only trip.
