Small, lightweight, and comfortable to wear. It is narrow enough to use in conjunction with a Sospenders life jacket, so you can use it on a boat without compromising safety. The loop on the back is also handy to hang a net from.

Rated 5 out of 5 by mightytrouter A very practical chest pack
I have a regular canvas vest and the River guard by LL Bean, they are good but i needed something small enough to carry a box of flies and a small number of acessories, and i wanted to feel flexible in the water (less weight possible). The Kennebec chest pack answered my needs because i don't need more to fish small streams and allows me more flexability to wader safely.

I bought this chest pack because I wanted to carry less gear and because I wade deep enough that I was always soaking the bottom of my fishing vest. Having used this chest pack for a couple of seasons I think I can give this a fair review.
Pros: Plenty of room for a large fly box (I have a Cliff Super Days Worth), some leaders, split shot, and floats. The front of the pack has enough zingers and loops to allow you to carry floatant, nippers, forceps, and tippet spools.
Cons: When you have everything mentioned above loaded into the chest pack, it weighs enough that the main pocket slides down low enough to dip in the water and all of your stuff ends up wet. I think the latch to keep the front pocket from sliding down should be on top, or the sliding functionality and extra tiny pocket should just be removed since they seem pretty unnecessary to me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MrHersch Great product
Received this 2 weeks ago, used it for the first time last Saturday. Very impressed with the craftsmanship and functionality. It holds everything you need for a casual day on the water. Obviously, it can't compete with one of the flyfishing backpacks that will hold a jacket, lunch, etc, nor was it designed to. I found that it held everything I needed for fishing in reasonable weather. Plenty of room for a medium sized fly box, knot-tying tool, spools of tippet, forceps, and many other items. It wasn't too hot, and the cushioned backing on the pack kept any of the contents from sticking into my chest.
I would highly recommend this for anyone who doesn't feel the need to carry every piece of gear they own.

Rated 1 out of 5 by CTFlyfish Unnecessarily complicated
This chest pack is overly complicated. The compartment is the size I was looking for. Unfortunately it is mounted on a rigid plate which serves no purpose in my opinion. It adds weight and bulk. Quality is good. I did not test it on the river, I returned it.

Am introducing my wife to fly fishing. As part of the intro, we attended a fly fishing festival where she had casting lessons and could sit in on women's fly fishing forums. There, the pro guides and experienced women recommended lanyards.
This is good advice if you can get your whole "kit" on a lanyard. I don't think a novice has the experience or knowledge to do this. I also know that a vest is often hot, heavy, and uncomfortable. The LL Bean chest pack struck me as a sound compromise. It will allow my wife to carry the basic tools, tippets, and a couple of fly boxes. Importantly it will give her the chance for trial and error without great risk of having a ruined fishing trip because something was left behind. The product itself is well made and really not much more bulk or weight than a lanyard.

Rated 5 out of 5 by flyfisher1966 nice little pack
I received this as a gift and I am very happy with it so far. Holds more gear than you might think, although I'm trying to minimize the amount of gear I carry. The tippet "dispenser" is a little tricky as the spools tend to get caught up with one another, but other than that I like it very much.

This is a nice pack it will keep you from bringing too much gear like people tend to do with a vest. i like it because it will hold 1 large box and 1 small one all your tippet and it has two lanyards for your clippers and fly dope.

After receiving my chest pack from L.L.Bean and having time to look it over for quality and usefullness I find it to be just what I hoped for.
The quality is very good and very sturdy. My intentions are to use this on a large river in warm weather to eliminate the bulk and heat of a vest. It is Ideal for that and there is enough of room for all of the equiptment you will need. I also like the built in zingers in the pack.
I would recomment this pack for this type of use or short trips to the stream.
