Looks like a perfect soft shell for underneath a rain shell. Cuffs are terrible, material is cheap and poorly constructed, it is light weight but not great in the wind. Odd fit for fly casting, material does stretch a bit but sleeves are just kind of weird. Not gonna stand up in the rockies!

Jacket is good quality ,as all Bean products. It a little light for really cold weather but can be layered. All in all I am well pleased.Paoli

Lightweight fleece not very warm, Velcro cuffs on jacket cumbersome and interfere with fly line casting and retrieval. Will be returning this to Bean's. This doesn't happen very often.

Despite what I've read about the negative comments on this product, I can only imagine these unfortunate few have received some "ugly ducks"
I couldn't be more happy with this product, frankly the "bunching" of material on the wrist is so minimal you can hardly notice it. And as far is the fleece being "too light" I've found it to be just right for where I fish. This past Easter I was in the middle of a stream with very windy conditions and a light drizzle.. I'm glad I had this on, with just a tee underneath it felt just right and kept me dry without making me sweat.
The ONLY complaint I have.. if you want to call it as such is the velcro, when adjusted after multiple times loses it's "stickyness".. but, when it goes through the wash it brings it back to life.

Rated 1 out of 5 by LLBeanFishing Returning this Item
After reviewing several of the ratings and reviews and based on past LLBean qaulity I decided not to listen to the reviews that were posted on this products and ordered anyway.
The previous reviews regarding the velcro cuffs are spot on. Not only do the velcro cuffs stick out but the cuff is so loose that when the velcro cuff is tightened there is a significant amount of material bunched around your wrist. If your flyfising and trying to keep water from running down your wrist this is not the jacket.
Second the body of the jacket is very thin fleece Polartec 100 or less and not at all wind resistant. The sleeves and shoulders are not water or wind resistant. You could not use this for light rain or wind while fishing. Not what you could consider a "Soft Shell" jacket.
Third the jacket design omitted a chinch at the waist. The fabric is very loose and bunches when tucked into waders.
Fourth the jacket is too thin for the weather in the Pacific NW.
Unfortunately not up to the quality of other products that i have purchased from LLBean.

Very good jacket for the money.
However, the jacket should have a fly patch on it and the sleeve cuffs should close to the outside of the cuff. As it is they now close to the inside and the extra velcro closure tab sticks up and catches on the fly line. But these are minor points.

I primarily backpack to my fishing destinations and this is great for exactly that. It is very light weight and durable. I have had no issues with movement and flexibility with this fleece. It breathes well but I would make sure to use layers under it. The sleeves are great and keep me dry when I'm fishing. They're also great at blocking wind.
My only complaints are that it is cut fairly large(which is good to tuck into waders and when layering in colder weather) and the cuffs have very weak velcro. I have not had any issues with fly line grabbing the cuffs but I can see how that would potentially be a problem.
Overall I'm extremely satisfied with this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by EricMN I like it a lot
I really like this jacket. I use it primarily for non-fly fishing (spinning, casting), so the cuffs aren't an issue. The couple of times I used it fly-fishing, I just had to pay attention at first, and I had no problems. The weight and cut work well for paddling, too. All in all, it's a great fishing/paddling jacket. I have to remind myself to NOT wear it all the time, so I don't wreck it when I'm not fishing.

This jacket is well made and a great buy. I especially like the rubber sealing cuffs. I have not had any problems with fly line catching on the cuffs. I saw the reviews that said the sizing runs big, so I ordered mine as a Medium. I ordinarily wear a Large. The Medium was the right size for me for this item. It keeps me warm and dry and is well made. I recommend it.

I would agree with many of the positive points made by other reviewers:
1. good style/looks
3. good fit (I always wear a large jacket and this one fits well in large size)
4. this jacket is light weight (not for very cold weather unless it is one of many layers)
5. overall design is well thought out for a fishing jacket
HOWEVER, the main reason for buying a fishing jacket vs. a standard fleece is the cinchable cuff and non-water absorbing sleeves. This is where the jacket has a weak link and why I can't recommend it. The velcro that holds the cuff tabs, as a few others mentioned, is not brand name VELCRO and is VERY weak. In other words, it doesn't hold under any stress making it useless. It's ashame the designers didn't specify better materials for this Bangladesh made jacket.
