Rated 2 out of 5 by SteveDeC Too heavy.
This item is heavier and bulkier than suits my needs, especially with potential air travel involved. The pack itself is mounted on a hefty mesh frame with waist-strap that I neither need nor like. Detached from that frame, it must be hand-carried by a single handle. Might be great for someone who will be carrying heavy, compact things that need to be kept dry. I'd rather have a lighter waterproof pack than this, so I returned it unused..

Would have liked and option for an interchangeable traditional shoulder strap as this pack would be useful for day hikes when there are intermittent showers.

This would be a great sling if not for one big problem: the stiff shoulder strap.
I wanted something I could use in hot weather to replace my fly fishing vest, so I used the sling when I was wearing a lightweight shirt. The stiff strap soon became very uncomfortable. I wonder how L.L. Bean didn't see this problem. Luckily, I had a thick rubber band that I put around the strap, curling it upwards.
This helped. I'm thinking of cementing some neoprene to the strap, because in all the other ways, this is a great product.

For what this is intended to do, it does an excellent job. It is designed to be a SOMEWHAT waterproof fishing bag, to keep your stuff dry during normal river fishing, but not to be waterproof while submerged. It's designed to do a good job of keeping your stuff dry while still being readily accessible. And it does a great job of this.
Today I wore the bag while wading the Potomac. A couple times I slipped and went in chest deep, immersing the bag for just a second or two almost all the way. Several times I dunked the bottom 1/4 of the bag for just a second or two.
At the end of the trip, my stuff was almost all dry. There was maybe a medicine dropper of water inside the bag. Did I rely on this bag alone to keep my cell phone dry? No way. I bought an $8 Plano Waterproof Stowaway and put my cell phone and keys in there and stashed them in the bottom of the bag. This bag is zippered and designed to allow you to get at your stuff without a great deal of hassle. Accordingly it's not waterproof. It's very water resistant, but if you're going to immerse it many times for long periods of time, your stuff is going to get soaked.
The bag is comfortable and can be easily switched from one shoulder to the other. I've got a big belly, and I was able to get the waist strap around me. This is a great product, but it's not a bag that will keep your stuff waterproof while it is submerged. If it was, you wouldn't be able to easily get into it. If you enjoy wade fishing, this is a great way to have your kit accessible but out of the way.

had this for a year now. the hip belt is a back saver. easy to cast while it is on. i do most of my fishing from shore now and it is perfect. wore it a month ago in the poring rain and nothing got wet. i keep 5 to 6 clear plastic trays of my smallmouth flies in it and is the best fishing bag ive had for that. i wish the openings on the side were 2 inches longer but it is probably desighned for steelhead fishing. very well made and i think the best pack out there even for ones costing more

This is a very nice pack, the colors are great. It is very well made, and functional.
This pack is large enough to hold more than you will need for a fishing day or two. However don't be fooled by the title, it is not waterproof! Although nothing really is. It is very very water-resistant. It will take a strong rain shower. I would not recommend to have it on when wading in a river where the pack is submerged.

Dosent happen very often from LL , but this one is not even close. They may ship it free but it's going to cost you money to return this dog.

Purchased to use on boats and during the rainy season here in South Florida. First trial was this past weekend while fishing in the Keys. Put my gear in the sack and stored it in what supposed to be a dry compartment. Some water got into the compartment (not that much) and also into the sack. Will continue to test further, but not looking waterproof so far.

I wanted a water proof sling pack to go on a two months sailing cruise.
So far I have been taking this back pack mountaineering in all weather and it has performed very well as expected.
I do not use it for fishing as I do not fish but I have stored my Laptop PowerBook G4 as well as a Leica camera, Binoculars and I feel very confident that all my equipment is very well protected from the weather and from any damage that could occur in the wilderness. I place all my electronics in well padded pouches inside the sling pack.
