Ausome product. Light enough for one person and provides room to keep pack inside tent. Yet provides room for occasional joint camping with the wife. Love it.

I've used this tent for several weeks on the Appalachian Trail and several backpacking trips in the Grand Canyon. It has never let me down. The weight of this tent is amazingly light but it's still a full-featured tent. Unlike other reviewers I've had no problem setting it up (even the first time!) and I've had no issues with the zippers, which I think are pretty sturdy. I like the highly reflective guylines that light up like a Christmas tree when even the weakest light is shined on them, which makes it easy to find your tent after a midnight potty run. This is a very breathable tent with lots of mesh for venting. Interior is spacious enough for one person plus her gear; it'll fit two intimate partners sans gear. It has great headroom which makes it easy to get changed inside the tent. There are several handy mesh pockets for storing small items like eyeglasses, headlamp, book, etc. Minor complaints: The vestibule is a bit small and you can't really store gear there because it will block your entry/exit. Also there should be a rigid rain gutter over the entrance of the tent because if you open it during a downpour the water runs straight into your vestibule instead of channeling to the side (that would be an easy fix for BA). Tips for better use: at the foot of the tent there are clips to attach the tent to the fly and they are meant to be staked out together. I found that staking the rain fly seperately from (and several inches past) the tent results in a completely dry tent even in a daylong downpour. Three extra stakes do the trick. In all my backcountry travels this tent is by far the most popular on the trail.

Just spent a couple of days in this tent as well as the Big Agnus seedhouse 3.(Which was much roomier but heavier) I was camping in the everglades in Dec. A little cold at night (60's) This tent is large enough for one person which is what I bought it for. Two would be stretching it. I bought it for an extended trip to Ecuador. I just wanted an emergency shelter with full netting which this has. It will work outside BUT....you MUST put in all the stakes and guy out the sides with no less than 4 lines each side or the fly will touch the inside tent and give you condensation. I'm a stage rigger yet I still had to work hard to get this set up properly. I may return it for this reason but I hate to as it's the lightest thing out there to my knowledge. Zippers are flimsy and require great care. If you can abide by these limitations it's a pretty good one person shelter without too much weight.

Just got back from a seven day backpack in SE Utah and my first chance to use the FC2. First, have to start with the weight. It's just ridiculous! Have a larger Big Agnes tent that I love but just too heavy when I'm the only one in the tent. Barely knew it was in my pack.
I was a little worried about the size of the tent since I'm 6'3" but even though I touched both ends of the tent with my pad/bag I never felt cramped. I wouldn't regularly try to put two people in it but you could in a pinch.
I don't know that I'd call it freestanding since to get the full interior volume you definitely have to stake it out but if the weather gets ugly you could put it down freestanding and then stake out later when weather permits. Once staked, I liked the volume for me as a solo since I tend to junk up my tent with gear.
Camped on sand, scrub and some hardstone and no issues with silnylon on the tent footprint. Only time will tell but I do have another BA tent and that has held up exceptionally; so expect the same with the FC2.
It's a little pricey but BA makes excellent products and I would highly recommend it.
