Rated 5 out of 5 by HikerPatW Great product!
These bottles are so handy for hiking. They are collapsible, lightweight and durable. I have purchased three (2 different sizes). We use water bottles for powdered drinks and reserve these for "plain" water. The first one has held up through 3 seasons of hiking!

Great for any adventure, anywhere. Mine is stuffed in an external pocket of my backpack since I don't use a bladder. Fits perfect & easy to get to for a drink along the trail. Also highly recommended for day hikes where size really does matter. Gets smaller the more you hydrate. Weighs less than an ounce & literally takes up no space when folded up.
I've been using Platypus "SoftBottle's" since they first came out. They last for many years & when they do not work as promised anymore, Cascade Designs will swap out your old bottle for a brand new one. This company has an iron-clad, lifetime warranty on many of their products. Practical technology that works.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Shopgirl44 Great design and packable.
So packable love the design. I purchased three different designs and didn't noticed the cap on this one was different. I though of returning but we are traveling next week.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Gideon52 The perfect 1 liter bottle for ultralight hiking
I've owned several of these and just purchased some more. They're perfect for ultralight backpacking...some advantages:
- They're super light at 25.5 grams or .9 oz
- They fit the side pockets of all my packs really well and they "stay" put; with other round water bottles they'll slip out when you take your pack off for a breat
- The threads fit my Sawyer Squeeze water filter; I use 1 bag to collect/carry unfiltered water and then I carry two more for clean/filtered water.
Here's a tip; you can take the flip top drinking cap off a bottle of "Smart" (brandname) water bottle and it'll fit perfectly on these. I put 2 on the bottles I use for clean water and leave the plain screw on cap on the one I use for unfiltered water.
These are lighter than most PET water bottles, stay put in the pack, are supper strong and work with my filter...perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by WIComfortGirl Highly Portable
These are great water bottles. I recently purchased three for a trip to Europe. They were easy to fill and tote along.
Drinking from them at first were a bit of a challenge (water on the face). After a short amount of time, mastered the art of drinking from the platypus.
Once empty the take up limited space. I used a small binder clip to clip it together so it stored easily in my bag.
I plan on getting a couple of grommets and attaching a caribiner to it for future travels. Someone else mentioned string around the opening too, so you can carry alongside you rather than having to put in a pack.

Light weight, great for saving grams when hiking, would be nice to have the cap attached to the bottle. I have misplaced the cap more than once, but a Dew cap fits great. You do have to be careful when loading it into packs with mesh pockets, the corners of the bottle catch on the mesh. By using two of these bottles in place of two 1 liter LL Bean nalgene bottles you will save 10.5 oz.

Rated 5 out of 5 by poloeyes New places for water to go
The platypus has found new places to go in my house hold. I paddle outrigger boats and the platypus stays put on the floor without rolling around in the boat like other water bottles. It's larger than other travel bottles so I get plenty of hydration. It's great for traveling as some foreign countries won't let you bring bottles on the plane but the platypus can roll up and be tucked into a pocket. It's a great invention.

Rated 3 out of 5 by HomeschoolDad Okay so far but not blown away
First off, it's not a revolution... it's a water bottle (however, a flat one). This won't change your life but might make your packing a little easier. Here are my thoughts in pro/con format:
Pros:
>>Flat and portable
>>.5, .75., 1 liter markings on back are nice
>>Material seems sturdy.
>> No leaks so far either from the body or the cap (make sure you twist that cap tight though)
Cons:
<< Cosmetically, the cap is not the color pictured in the ad... I got a black bottle and the cap is white not black. Not a big deal
<< Sharp corners on bottom. Easy mod is to just carefully round the corners with a scissors.
<<Functionality: 1.you have to hold the hard plastic top to unscrew the cap. This limits ease of use.
2. drinking is a two-handed operation. You can't just hold the bottle and upend it to drink like a hard-sided bottle. If you do that you'll get a face and shirt full of drink!
To solve the drinking problem, you could get it with the hyperflow or pull-top cap. Both I would recommend over the standard twist.
The End Game: For $8 you get a glorified, flat drinking bottle that, at least will get you some attention. Get the alternate cap! For the money you would think it would be compatible with your standard pull-top drink cap but no. It'd be cool if they offered a drinking tube bladder mod to give the option of making it into a bladder.
I would recommend but with a caution. The only real purpose of this is portability. You can get 8 full bottles of water with pull-top caps at your local convenience store for the price of 1 of these.

Rated 2 out of 5 by PeggyILShopper Fun water bottle, but...
I like this soft bottle with the roll up feature. However, it should have been designed with a flip top cap. I know I'm going to lose the cap and it's a little irritating to keep track of it.
