I have the Guide model 426 made in Finland. If you can find this for under $6 and know of a child who would like to learn how to use a compass, this is a good one. I used this for about 2 months before a bubble the size of an adult vitamin appeared in the viewer. It's plastic and not made to last very long. I would not pay more than $6 for this toy. Solid plastic "hinge", wrist cord connected at the wrong end, liquid may leak, it's just not a very good compass but passable for a beginner if you can find it for under $6.

The trouble with this compass is it's impractical foe navigation. There is no hinge on the mirror is just a solid piece of plastic connected to the base. The lanyard is on the wrong end and you can't adjust for declination.

A great gift for my grandson. Instead of playing video games he is outside learning how to do orienteering. A small price for big rewards!!

Nicely made item as advertised, but I wish it didn't have INDONESIA printed in huge letters on the front.

Have owned and used two other Silva compasses (Ranger & Explorer) over the last +20 years. Both are of superior build quality and have withstood the years of use. Purchased this compass because it floats, very light weight and my net out of pocket cost was a bit over $6. I got what I paid for in this case. A few issues with this compass are: 1. The "hinge" on the case is just thin film of plastic. I suspect with use the plastic will fatigue and crack. 2. Lanyard attachment is located on the opposite end of the base plate relative to where it should be. 3. The angle needed to use the mirror is too great. Parallax error.

not sure about this yet. i've been playin around with it ever since i got it. the needle hangs up on it. maybe it gets off balance. it's orange so it's easy to see. ad says it floats. that's good. they give you directions on all the ways to use it.

I started kayaking and hiking a few years ago and love having a compass with me now. This one from Silva is great and it floats so it is perfect. Light weight and best of all cheap....$20 bucks!!
