We have bought and returned several other *flotation* jackets for our dog...They zipped on, slipped over and made her shake in fear!
I had seen this exact flotation jacket on the NRS site for more and when I saw that L. L. Bean carried it, I knew I had to try it...
She loves it! It is easy to adjust, she feels like she is wearing her walking halter and does not feel like we have trapped her in something painful!
We have been putting it one her everyday and taking her for a walk so she has gotten use to it...Yesterday, we tried the pool and she did wonderful! I like the neck strap, it does keep their head above water...I now feel confident when we take her on the bass boat of the patio boat...Safety first!

Beautifully made. The puppy still has to grow into the vest, which was given as a gift. Fortunately L.L. Bean has a great return policy if the fit isn't correct.

When I take my bearded collie boating, I like to have her wear a life jacket. She can swim but prefers to keep all four paws on the ground. This life jacket does not have velcro going around the dog's middle. So no more hair pulls and yelps. The only problem is that the buckles go through loops. It is very difficult to get the buckle through. Other than that I consider the jacket perfect. Great color, fits well, and keeps my dog safe.

KayaksWithDogs Works Great- Thankfully!
This CFD saved my Westie! She fell out of my kayak- but was wearing her NRS- so she was back to safety in no time! I had no problem grabbing the handle when I needed to. It was very sturdy and the jacket held her in all the right places. I found the jacket easy & fast to put on my dog. I like that there is a rugged loop to attach a leash or tether for boating.The size chart is accurate. My dog weighs about 19lbs and wears the XS. She loves wearing it too: ) (Although we would both prefer a choice in colors.)

MLTRN Great Product
We bought this vest for our Grandpuppy for Christmas. At first he was not crazy about wearing it, but when he discovered that he no longer had to be pushed and pulled up onto the boat after a swim because we could just grab his handle and lift him over the side, he loved it! He would jump off of the front of the boat, do a lap or two and swim to the back of the boat to be lifted back in so he could jump in the water again. He's an 85 lb lab and the straps held up great. We had looked at other vests for him with thin straps, but this one has that nice padding on the straps that makes it so much more comfortable for him. The vest really helped all of us enjoy a day at the river more than we thought we could. We're going to buy a second one for our other Grandpuppy!

I have an 11-pound Coton de Tulear (dog), so I bought the extra small device. It fits great around her stomach and chest, but it's quite large around her neck. I had to pull the fabric together at the seam in the neck portion and sew it together to make it smaller; it seems to fit better now.
The device is well made with a handy strap on the back for lifting the dog up out of the water, if necessary. Many other devices have wide straps that wrap under the pooch, but the ones on this device are more than sufficient and don't make it too hot for my dog to wear this all day on a boat.
Several reviewers said it is too stiff, but if you roll it (lengthwise) tightly and put an elastic around it for a week or more, it takes on a more rounded shape and conforms nicely to the dog's body.

I am really glad we bought these.
We rolled the life jackets ahead of time, like another reviewer recommended, and the dogs didn't mind wearing them.
The handle and ring for a leash are very useful.
We have two lab mixes who love the water, so I presumed they could swim. It turns out they panic when their paws can't reach the bottom. So for canoeing these are essential. And any dog can get tired or frightened if the canoe tips, just like people.
The dogs also enjoyed swimming in the jackets.

I am surprised LL Bean, which generally has excellent dog products, selling such a faulty flotation vest. The handle on the back is very small - I cannot imagine trying to grab my dog out of the water in an emergency with such a small handle.
The buckles in theory get threaded through small loops AFTER you get the vest on the dog. My dog is very good and tolerant, but she got tired of waiting for me to push the straps through (and I bet my copious cursing did not help, either) so I could buckle the vest.
But again, the thing that I really don't understand is the handle. I bought this so I could go boating with my dog and not worry if our kayak overturned in the middle of a lake or out in the ocean. The smart thing to do would be to right my boat and then haul my dog back in.... which I could not do with that hard-to-grab tiny handle.
LL Bean, please sell a dog flotation vest with a large and easy to grab handle!

I purchased 2 of these for our Golden Retrievers who love to jump off our raft. The strap on top is strong for pulling them up the ladder. The jackets tend to run large, as we measured the dogs prior to ordering and found them to be bigger than we thought. The strap that goes around the belly is somewhat difficult to snap together once it is on the dogs. These were purchased as replacement life jackets, and they are stronger.
