Bought it for camping, light and collapses to fit in the backpack. Started using it at work, all you need is hot water.

This Java Drip makes the best coffee. It is as good or better than the expensive coffee makers. I use mine daily. This is the 4th one I have ordered. I give them as gifts. This last one I gave to my Grand Daughter. She and her husband love it.

This is great for overseas travel were many hotels have hot water but no coffee maker. Packs in carry on luggage as well. Just bring paper filters.

Rated 5 out of 5 by mtnfever great off-grid/ boondocking coffee maker
We often boondock ("camp" without hookups) in our motorhome but Must. Have. Coffee. to be able start functioning in the morning. I used to use a Lexan French press (also from GSI) but saw this and wanted to try it.
This GSI Java Drip is big enough to make a pot of coffee, not just a cup. We have a cheapo Mr Coffee thermal carafe coffeemaker for when we have electricity and the Java Drip fits perfectly on the thermal carafe. The Java Drip folds up extremely flat (.5 - .75 inch) so it's much smaller to store than the French press. You use the cover as a lid to keep in the heat during the brew. Then, you use the lid as a drip-catcher for the brewer when you're done.
This method is more hands-on than the French press, since you have to carefully fill the brewer multiple times to get a full pot. And don't knock it over either! These can be a challenge before coffee, I admit. But when you're done, just dump out the filter and the grounds, give a little rinse with leftover water from your kettle, and you're done. Far easier than the French press that used more water to clean up than it used to brew. Oh, and the Java Drip coffee is way less gritty than the French press coffee too.
It tastes fine to us and I use cream while my husband drinks his coffee black but, as I mentioned, we use coffee to get functionality, not as coffee taste snobs.

I always drip my mug of coffee in the mornings. Now I do so on my camping trips. This dripper folds flat and the cover snaps onto the base to keep it clean. I used a no. 2 filter for my single mug of coffee without a problem even though it is designed for a no. 4. It is now a permanent part of my camping gear along with my LL Bean 18 oz. stainless steel thermal coffee mug purchased a few years ago. Hot coffee that stays hot on a camping trip--perfection!

I'm using it. It works. I like that it folds up and can be cased in, easy to stow at home or away at camp. I'm assuming the silicone is less reactive than ancient plastic, too.

Does what it's supposed to do, nicely. I fumbled around trying to collapse it the first time. All you have to do is place your whole hand on top and press down kinda fast. Booya grandma!

Bought this item for my son, who does a lot of travelling and isn't impressed with most hotel coffee. Gave it a try myself, and decided I may have to get an additional one. Makes great coffee, easily brews right into a travel mug, and collapses up neatly to tuck into a backpack. I think it does a better job than my new single serve coffee maker, which cost a WHOLE lot more! Clever product!
