Rated 2 out of 5 by OldGuy44 Clunky, hard to use, quirky too
Seems like a great thing. Leave it out and use it charge your phone or kindle or what-not. However... for something with only two buttons, its hard to use. Still haven't figured out the secret to which end or both ends of the usb cable have to be disconnected in order to charge your device. Half the time you start charging something but it ceases charging after 10 minutes. Also the small USB connector is not the right shape to fit any cellphone charger nowadays, so its useless to me there. Seems like a 10 year old product that's being passed on.

Rated 1 out of 5 by ImDowntown Doesn't work
I would give this product 0 stars if I could.
The instructions are poor and difficult to understand. I charged the unit, then attempted to charge my iPhone. While the device may work for some cell phones, it certainly would NOT charge an iPhone 4S.

Rated 4 out of 5 by thechromeheadedone Just a wee bit of patience needed
Purchased this item for its ability to recharge my iPhone, iPod, etc. via solar panels during earthquake and storm when the juice is off for a long time. Once you fool around with it, it's fine; but the accompanying instructions are totally unhelpful: minimalism in extremis. Solidly build, nicely designed -- attractive, even! Holds a charge (from whatever source) for months.

Great cell phone back-up. After fully charging item, I was able to completely charge two Verizon cell phones. The item can easily be re-charged by using the solor panels for two hours, a 120 volt,5.5volt wall plug i, a car cigar lighter
or a battery charger w/cigar plug in. The unit has held a full charge for 21 days without any loss. I am very pleased with this unit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Kinner Brunton Restore Portable Power Device
The device itself is great, works as advertised, although the documentation is skimpy. My main problem was I was sent the other Brunton product twice. Apparently they were mislabled in the warehouse, so be careful to insure you get the right device.

The recipient of this gift of portable power reports that it works "just great!" and is very happy with it. The adapter makes it able to charge all of his gadgets. There is no downside to this great little charger.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Techsavytwenties Great charger for everything
Look i've tried them all. Solio, highland, and others, but brunton is the only charger that will charge everything of mine. I have a samsung phone and a fourth gen ipod touch (meaning newest) and it charges both of those. I never go hiking without it, and neither does my friend for that matter, sheesh. I charged my phone three times and my ipod once while we were hiking on the AT last year and it still had half a charge left in the unit when we returned. I don't know why people are saying it won't charge their iphones. You do need to have both usb ports unpluged when you plug in your phone so maybe that's it, but it does charge iphones. People are right when they say the the screens do get a bit scratched up, but it's easliy fixed by putting a piece of felt or cloth in between the faces while you're hiking. All i'm saying is that i need a charger for my things when i'm in the middle of nowhere and this is the best one that i've found so far! You can't go wrong!

First time use - The unit charged in several hours on a bright sunny day. But the first camping trip I took it on, the clear-coated solar panels apparently scuffed each other while closed in my pack, so the solar panels no longer work. A raised rubber lip might prevent that from happening. Also, it would be nice if the hinge had some friction so you could adjust the angle of the unit when it is open. The unit comes with a nice set of adapters for a variety of applications, but I need something that will hold up in my backpack.
