Rated 5 out of 5 by G3HVAC Perfect for carry-on or short trips
We thought this bag would be perfect with it's shoulder straps which lets you free up your hands when traveling with a child. The straps hide away perfectly when you don't want them. Ideal size for a carry-on bag or just enough enough room for a couple changes of clothes for a weekend trip.

Rated 4 out of 5 by TSEAST Bigger than it looks
The duffle just arrived and at first I was concerned that it looked small. I decided to test it by packing for an upcoming weeklong vacation (warm climate). Everything I need fits with room to spare. I am pleasantly surprised. The overall external size is ideal for carry-on and has the straps for lugging through airports and backwoods. The construction looks sturdy. The way that you access the contents is a bit of a pain ? no quick access, but overall this is just what I was looking for. Only other thought is that if you need lots of space (e.g. winter gear) this is probably not going to be the right fit.

This bag is excellent to keep your hands free when traveling. I occasionally travel by myself with my toddler and the backpack feature keeps my hands free to guide him or push a stroller. I can fit a weekend of clothes for both of us to carry-on a plane.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Mistyvalley packs well and size is right
recently purchased this item and found it to be a great size and able to pack well, holding as much as any other carry on sized bag. Has one outside pocket that is big enough to hold the 'liquids bag' that has to be pulled out to clear airport security. Additionally, the back pocket that holds the backpack-style shoulder straps makes a good sized outside pocket for holding a rain jacket, etc. As with any soft-side luggage, one should get some mesh packing cubes to help distribute the load internally--these make a big difference in getting a bag packed right vs. having one where everything sags to one side. Jury still out on durability.

I loved this bag! I got it for a weeklong trip to Haiti and it was perfect for carrying everything I needed. I even had extra room. I wish it had a waist strap but other than that, I loved it.

The dimensions are accurately described, and the top flap covering the main compartment zipper is clearly depicted; I am always bemused by people who receive exactly the features they ordered, but then are upset about them. The top flap in fact forms a pouch that is useful for carrying a bike lock, or some other item or clothing for grabbing quickly without having to dig in the main compartment. The flap also has a 12? x 7? pocket for documents, cell phone, etc. Finally, it covers much of the main compartment zipper, which improves water repellence.
What sets the Bean Expedition Duffle apart is the ability to pack folded, ironed clothing, yet carry them backpack-style without causing wrinkles (in my case on a bike to work). Regular day packs and bike bags are top-loading, which makes it difficult to insert folded dress clothes. Even taking extra care however, most such bags have no compression straps, so the clothes end up wadded at the bottom when the pack is carried vertically. The Bean Expedition Duffle allows easy flat-packing of dress clothes, and the straps some reviewers complain about allow the load to be cinched down when the duffle is not stuffed full.
The bag has several external attachment points, durable materials and construction. Minor criticism is that the D-rings and clips for the backpack straps are plastic, and not nearly as substantial as the attachments for the shoulder strap. The zipper pulls are rather long with dangly ?knobs? that occasionally catch on things. The duffle is also hot against the back when carried backpack-style.

Rated 4 out of 5 by 56phil A tad small
It's well made, using quality materials. However, on the other hand, with just one big compartment it's difficult to keep things organized. I'd be more pleased if this product was 20% larger and easier to organize. It does make a fine gym bag.

My absolute favorite bag ever. Have taken this bag everywhere with no issues. Its been to Machu Picchu in Peru, numerous flights as a carry-on and countless day trips all without any issues or signs of wear. Lots of options to pack things away and fasten larger items to the outside.

The bag is nicer than expected. Only negative is it can't be machine washed. Wish I would have realized this before purchasing it.
