Rated 2 out of 5 by nottwodoc stowaway not as good as it used to be
We bought the Goretex stowaway jackets for our entire family for a trip to europe in 1998 .Three of us still have ours and still wear them.Love them.! My husband lost his a few years ago and we tried to replace it. He is tall and needs the Large TALL size jacket. The jacket is too short now!!. When LlBean redesigned it sometime after 1998 they SHORTENED the length. He hates it and refuses to wear it. We keep looking to see if LLBean has gone back to the generous length.. but no luck ..the description still says "hip length".. We don't understand why a tall size would be so short in length.BIG MISTAKE!

Zipper was horribly cheap and did not function well, bound to fabric several times before reaching top. For the amount of money this jacket costs, it is a disappointment.

First one lasted over 20 years with almost daily usage. Great wind and rain protection.

This jacket is much different from my 1995 Stowaway. The sleeves are too long and the body too short for a tall. An extra-large wouldn't work because the body would be even shorter.

Rated 1 out of 5 by TravelClock Changes Made Did Not Improve the Product.
I do not like the design and material changes that were made to the stowaway rain jacket from the previous model for the following reasons. Mine was bought about three years ago. I was going to order a new model but customer service said that no changes have been to the product that would address my concerns.
1. The front zipper placket is not as firm. Consequently the zipper gets caught in the material behind the zipper when zipping up especially near the neck or where there are bends in the material.
2. The velcro closures are difficult to close compared to the buttons used previously. They are too small and difficult to find and line up.
3. The slide closures on the hood do not hold their positions. The push-button type used previous held their position.
4. The side vertical opening of the stowaway pocket is not easy to access to put things in compared to the horizontal top opening used previously.
Will these design and material issues be addressed in a new model? If so, when will it be available? Do the people who make design and material decisions read these reviews?

Rated 3 out of 5 by Thefishman great wind breaker, not waterproof
Stowaway jacket is a great wind breaker. But, in anything but light rain, it leaks through. On cold days this is a problem. The jacket is light weight and comfortable to fish in.

My wife and I got the jacket and we are both quite happy with them. The men's jacket, however, has an issue with the zipper. There is a strip of fabric in front of the zipper that continues to catch in the zipper when I try to zip it up or down. This is annoying. I called LL Bean and a representative told me that he hasn't heard this complaint before. So he agreed to send me another jacket and I returned the first one. The second jacket also has the sticking problem, but not as bad. So, I think I will keep it, since I like everything else about it. My wife has had no problem at all with her jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MAinNJ well worth it
I needed some rain gear for a trip to Alaska this summer. The design kept me dry and worked great with a fleece underneath. The layers worked much better than folks wearing winter jackets in the rain.
