I spend a lot of time outside, directing traffic. I need protection from the sun and this hat delivers. I like the wide brim; it keeps my whole face shielded and helps keep me from squinting in the bright sun. The lightweight crown breathes nicely, so while you are protected from the sun, the top of your head does not feel hot. The back flap is another nice feature. It keeps the sun off pof your neck. I also soaked it with ice water and it kept my neck cool for quite some time.
After directing traffic for 6 hours, I got into my convertible with the hat on. Yes, the wind did try to blow it off, but I figure that's why it has a chin strap. And you know what? It worked like a charm.
To sum up, this is a great hat, just what I was looking for. I have already recommended it to two other people. And I may get a second one for me.

Haven't had it long enough to evaluate durability. Looks a little on the thin side (flimsy), but... as in all things.... time will tell. So far quite a few compliments, which amazes me. Getting compliments on my hat on a golf course. Amazing. On a breezy day, really holds up well. And on a hot sizzling day, the back flap really does make a big difference, but I think I probably look a little dorkie. Anyway, would definitely rec it.

I purchased a different outback hat several years ago and it said it could be machine washed. In doing so, I believe much of the wire that held the brim in shape became broken. This outback hat is different from the other one in style, but I plan to hand wash it--just in case. It fits perfectly, and the brim is nice and wide to cover in the front and back! Now I use the new one for "good" and the old one for gardening and yard work!

I love to vacation in the spring in Florida after a long, cold winter in Michigan. But this fair-skinned princess needs some serious sun protection, and this hat delivers it times two. Love the perfect fit with the pull cord around the hat. The skirted neck conversion comes in very handy and stores back into the brim in a flash. Dries quickly when it gets wet. Very satisfied with this good hat. Get one; don't hesitate.

I have been looking for a hat that has the back neck cover. I live in Florida and go to the beach and other outdoor activities. This hat shades my face and neck. Great hat!

Bought this for my fishing trips this next summer. It rolls up for luggage. The adjustable head band is great. I think it's going to do the job of keeping the sun off my neck and ears.

For those fair-skinned walkers/hikers who don't feel like applying sunscreen every time you venture outside, the outback hat gives total head-and-shoulders coverage with the back flap covering the neck. It's comfortable and has an adjustable head strap for those windy days. A great addition to my hat collection!

Genuine redhead, do not place in direct sunlight! This hat is in charge of keeping me from burning! Does a great job, good fit, very light on the head, good chinstrap...good good good!

Rated 2 out of 5 by eggandbeans well-made but uncomfortable hat
This hat is well-made and the back-flap feature is nice, but it didn't fit well: the brim seems to be set too high on the crown, and it drooped over into my eyes. I tried to give it to my husband, but he didn't like it either, so I have returned it.
